The only reason I would leave is if her attitude changed, to one of entitlement, woe is me, kind of deal. A little pity is to be expected, but after an appropriate period, it would be time to get on with life.

Fantasic. Get a hollow refrigerated one. You could keep a few cold ones in there along with some snacks. It'd be nice if the foot part could be extracted as a shotgun or as a rifle if the need arose.
