been takin 600mg ibuprofen for some pain before bed but i had a question...i take the 200mg tablets. whats the difference between taking, for example, a prescription 800mg ibuprofen tab and 4 200mg otc tabs? or is there any? i just wonder why something like that would be prescribed but anyojne could just take enough of them to get to the same dosage?

fda ok'd the otc sales of ibuprofen at the 200 mg dose. 4 x 200 mg=800 mg. no dif. just like they ok'd diphenhydramine (benadryl) at 25 mg dose...dozen other examples low dose= less adverse events

yeah i figured as much i was just kind of curious about all that.

If it is a question of money, go for the cheaper one (like Boots own brand), cause really, there is no difference IMHO. The active ingredient is the active ingredient.

The name brands just add in a few extras sometimes, like caffeine.............

I never buy the expensive name brand pain killers.

If the pain is severe, you can take paracetamol and ibuprophen together.

Ibuprophen is a derivative of aspirin, so don't take anything with aspirin in it

It's actually more convenient than getting the script. Because if you get 600mg or 800mg and ever wanted to take less you can't. But with the 200mg you can titrate upwards as needed.

Only reason they sell 800mg as a script is because its cheaper (provided you have INS) then getting a bottle of advil and munching down 4 at a time is what the pharmacist told me.
