LOL I hear that a lot. Whether you mean it or not, I DO hear it. What specifically do we do that is different that you dilike? Serious question. I'd like to know the difference in behavior. Is it the attitude we being? The money? HA! The "we're better than you and putting our kids in private school so they don't grow buck teeth like you" feeling that we give you? Answer!

I really would like to move somewhere a little more laid back and roomier. Like I said, I don't work ijn NYC and don't beneifit from living here, so why should I live here? I'm sick of measuring my property by the inch. I want an acre! lol

and no mortgage. woohoo.

Wait, do you have Chinese massage parlors there?

You answered your own question.

Yankees = snobs

We are friendly, courteous, laid-back, and conservative. You Yanks are like a spoiled, high maintenance woman.

I joke, but at the same time am serious when I say this. It's almost like there is a predijuce against Southerners. Kinda like the 911 terrorists who hated America yet lived here enjoying all the benefits and did all the things they were against.

LOL Dude, we want what we want. We ask for something, give it to us! That's it. period. Follow those rules and no one gets hurt. Seriously, that's how we are and that's what I meant by " a little slower, or laid back down there." We're going a hundred miles an hour up here and we want it that way.

My friend went to Texas for a couple of weeks and said that on the checkout line, he was asked by the cashier "Hi there, did you get everything you needed? How was your day today...." blahblah. wtf? Dude, how much is this damn bottle of pills and take my money, I'm in a hurry!!! That's how we are here. Don't smile at me and ask how my day was when I goota go pick up my kid from art /piano class and my girlfriend's husband will be home in an hour, so I can't go cheat on my wife!

I went into a "deli" in Florida and asked for a sandwich. The guy said we're out of those specific coldcuts but was leaving to the market if I could wait until he got back? ARE YOU FUCKING CRAZY?!?!? Wait till you got back to make me a freaking sandwhich?!?! People would get shot up here for that.

Sure that's not indicitive of the WHOLE SOUTH. Of course not, but I've seen it so much and just have that image now. Plus I hear it a lot. It's like a different world.

Having said that, I DO like it. I DO want my kids growing up in that slower, friendlier, neighborhood type environment.

We should have a war... North against the south. Oh wait, we already did. Losers... HA!

Benefits/drawbacks to both north and south. neither is superior to the other.
Personal preference.

RE is pretty high here. Every thing is at least 30 minutes away and more if you don't live there. People drive an hour or more to get lower RE prices. Traffic sucks in and out. Are you opposed to mass transit? That may be an option and you could live further away.

Living in NJ and working in NY will also add to your taes, because you'll pay taxes in both states. ouch!

Honestly, if you can live here with someone for a month or two and feel it out before you jump in head first, might be an idea. I don't know how Texas is, but I do know you need to be a certain "type" to live around here, and personally, I don't like it.

Having said that, I don't live in NYC, I'm in NJ, but when I visit other states, I find everyone a lot friendlier than up here. "Grass is greener....?" maybe. Good luck.

My father says NY'ers are beginning to commute from West of Stroudsburg, PA now. Lots of commuters buying up cheaper land in the Poconos.

i live in the north and have for my whole life
i disagree with you, the south is superior
easier living, less heating costs, more sunshine
and from what i gather more opportunity as companies relocate
to the new south
try living in winter for 5 months with little or no sun
paying 300 plus a month to heat your home
crashing cars because of ice
slipping and busting your ass numerous times
the south>north

8 months out of the year, my electric bill exceeds $200 for air conditioning. Grass is always greener. Plus, I miss winter sports, still hunting on a chilly December morning with a flurry in the air, a coating of snow on the hemlock, the blazing colors of mid-October on the mountainside. I do, however, enjoy the scenery as I drive across US98 in the summer, fishing offshore, wearing shorts year round.

Florida isn't what we consider The South. It's like California...in a perfect world the ocean would devour then both.

;)

living is a lot harder with 12 feet of snow on the ground
all the little costs add up
snow removal
heat
having to outfit with winter garb
wear and tear on vehicles

plus it fuggin sucks having to wake up and crawl out of a warm bed when its 20 degrees outside and your car is frozen and frosted

your summer costs of a/c are a luxury cost...you can live without a/c but i cannot without heating oil.
