I want to live and work in NYC. All bors who have any suggestions post here

50 K in New Jersey won't get you anywhere nevermind Manhattan. As for Manhattan, I know a few people that combine 200K in salary and they don't have much to show for it either.

I work for a Big 4 accounting firm in Manhattan. If you want me to help you out/send along your resume, shoot me a PM.

you should be able to find cheaper apartments in manhattan. friend of mine lives on the east side in the 90s and pays around 1200 for a 2br. definitely not in the greatest area, but as long as it's safe and relatively clean and quiet...

there's always a way to get by, even on 50k, although you wouldn't be having much fun.

jersey city has lots of options too. i live there, and it's fairly convenient for getting into the city...in billions of ways.

it also has some of the best glory holes east of the mississippi.

never lived in texas so maybe you need about $250-$300K a year for the same life style. i see houses on the internet that are close to houston that sell for $250K that would sell for 1.5 million to 2.0+ million in certain areas of NJ.

let's put it this way, be prepared to pay a ridiculous amount just for a cup of coffee

^^^Yeah, I want to leave this place. A house I would like is $650k and up. That's just too much IMO. Even if you got that, you'd pay 20k in property taxes a year. pfft.

I'm considering moving somewhere with more land and a not so hostile environment for the kids.

Hey, Let's switch! I'll move to Texas and you move to Jersey.

and KB I was referring to how close Buffalo is to NYC, that you could go there during your lunch breaks. HA!

Move to Tennessee. It's laid back, beautiful, safe and everybody is friendly.

You could sell your house from there and prob have enough money to buy one 4 times larger, with land and still have some left over.

Please come, I need friends.
