here's something to think about: the price of a NYC apartment is somewhere around $1000 a square foot.
to rent, you'd have to find something on the outskirts of manhattan (if you want to live RIGHT in the city, although you could easily live in brooklyn, queens, or hoboken for much less) and pay close to $2000 a month for a very small studio. $50k won't cut that, obviously.
you could, however, live and work in the surrounding area, plan on making around $75k, and live relatively comfortably.

Wow that doesn't sound like a lot of money...stay someplace cheap get your CA and then work for a big firm like PWC. You should make 100k+ then.

RE is pretty high here. Every thing is at least 30 minutes away and more if you don't live there. People drive an hour or more to get lower RE prices. Traffic sucks in and out. Are you opposed to mass transit? That may be an option and you could live further away.


Living in NJ and working in NY will also add to your taes, because you'll pay taxes in both states. ouch!


Honestly, if you can live here with someone for a month or two and feel it out before you jump in head first, might be an idea. I don't know how Texas is, but I do know you need to be a certain "type" to live around here, and personally, I don't like it.

Having said that, I don't live in NYC, I'm in NJ, but when I visit other states, I find everyone a lot friendlier than up here. "Grass is greener....?" maybe. Good luck.
