Being biblicaly accurate does not equate to historical accuracy. Remember that the gospels were written over 40 to 70 years after Christs death when political situations in Palestine were much different that in Jesus' time. When the gospels were written, the Jews were in an all out armed rebellion against Rome (Masada anyone?). The Christains, who were considererd a sect of Juadaism at this time, were desperately trying to seperate themselves from Judasim and gain favor with Rome. This is why Pilate is put in such a favorable light in the gospels while the Jewish religous establishement is portrayed in a negative way.

If Jesus were real today, right now, many of you would do the same thing that they did to him in the biblical story. People's contempt, arrogance, hatred for what is good and pure, often show through.

i think this is the one thing everyone should realize... how almost nothing has changed. there are millions of christinas but the exact system of scioety jesus was murdered in. is still growing and thriving and basicly unchanged except for technology

nothing has changed, you can sit in church all day you can say the word JESUS till your head explodes and it wont be what he wanted.

Personally, I'd much rather see that than the movie he made, it would make for a better movie IMHO. The Passion went all for shock value, but unless you've read the Bible it loses much of it's power and just becomes two hours of a man being tortured. At least Braveheart built up to its torture ending with some drama and story to give it substance.

Sitting next to me as I watched the movie was a guy who speaks latin. He was translating the backchatter among the romans that wasn't presented in sub-titled. They were marveling at his strength.

That's pretty cool. I kind of got that impression from their faces, but you couldn't tell for sure without knowing latin. Nice touch by Mel.

Actaully, the Latin is were Mel got it wrong. The Romans would have been speaking Koine A or common Greek during this time. He did get the Aramaic correct though.

This is very true! Only fancy pants Romans spoke Latin. Though, I do think that reading latin was pretty usual.

To share my view on the "shock" value of The Passion of The Christ, some claim that the amount of violence in this film gives a realistic perspective to the stories we've heard since grade school. On the whole I'd say everyone who reads this lives in a society in which "cruel and unusual" punishment is forbidden so when someone says Jesus was crucified you think wow those nails would really hurt, and being on that cross must suck... but if you're thrown into the reality of the situation (as Gibson did in his film) you realize the brutality and cruelty that He endured for US, to me this gives much more power to the book. I for one know I will not read the account in my Bible and not be reminded of the true gravity of the events...

Very powerful movie.I was driven to tears many times.

I would love to see Mel turn around and do an epic of Christ's actual life and events that led to his following.

I had really looked forward to seeing this movie. I had heard great things about it, of course, and I think Mel Gibson is excellent at creating movies.

I was rather disappointed with this movie though. There was a whole lot of beating and it focused so much on it that I just didn't feel that it was a good movie. The music was nice, the cinematography was good, but on and on the beating lasted. Maybe that was the intent, but I got the point and it didn't need to continue on and on. They could've thrown more about Jesus into the movie. The story seemed weak and so much more could've been told in this movie.

This was not the best movie I've ever seen. I believe that Lord of the Rings is a good series of movies, I love Schindler's List and Titanic, but this didn't rank up there with any of those when looking at the total package . . . in my opinion.
