I Saw "The Passion of the Christ" Tonight.

How come Jesus did NOTHING to prove he was the "son of god"? the movie never showed his extra-terrestrial powers. Hell if someone walked on water in front of me -- i'd be worshipping thta guy as a god in a heartbeat! (after making sure there were no tricks). hehe.

Heck, would it be any differnent If i started going around churhces in the US and proclaiming that? And when peopl ehere bitch at me - i'd say "they used to say that same shit o Jesus too!".

Right now there are at least 20-30 people on the plane to proclaiming to be the new sons of gods. How come they are beig laughed at and not being taken seriously. Or are we that blind that only religious symbols can exist thousands o fyears ago, and God obviously would never do something now, cuz we're too intelligent to fall for anything.

The Gospels are rife with examples of people who had witnessed Jesus' miracles first-hand, and yet still refused to believe he was the son of God.

To answer your last question(s)...

1) The Bible forewarned of people proclaiming to be Christ, esp. in the "last days"...people don't take most of these quacks seriously yet because none of them bear any credibility. There are a few obvious exceptions such as Koresh and Moon who've managed to obtain noteable followings. This will, however, change dramatically upon the appearance of the antichrist.

2) Yes, people back then were that blind, just as many are today.

People often mock and/or attack that which they do not understand. (take a look at just about any of the previous threads on this site that pertain to Christ or Christianity.)

I could write a novella about this, but I won't...chances are either no one will bother to read it, or someone will start a flamefest. No need to go there again.

I really wish it were feasible to discuss this topic on here w/o it quickly getting out of hand, but previous threads have proven it's not possible. If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me and I'll try to help.

This is without question one of the most sensible threads on this topic I have seen so far. At least people are expressing their views without flaming attacks. I personally liked the movie, was not thrilled about the sub-titles(understand the concept of the language of the day and why Mel used sub-titles), and liked the book better.

During the first part of the movie, when Judas leads the guards to Jesus in the garden, a fight breaks out between one of Jesus' disciples, Peter, & the guards who are trying to arrest Jesus. In all the commotion, Peter takes out his sword & slices off one of the guard's ear. There's blood everywhere. Jesus then shouts...."Peter! Put down thy sword. For he who lives by the sword will surely die by the sword." He then proceeds to go over to the injured guard & visually looks at his wound. He picks up the guards ear & miraculously puts it back on without saying a word. The wound is completely healed after Jesus' removes his hand. The guard is speechless. He just sits there staring at Jesus, totally blown away by what has just happened.

that's all he did? I can do that.

Personally, I'd much rather see that than the movie he made, it would make for a better movie IMHO. The Passion went all for shock value, but unless you've read the Bible it loses much of it's power and just becomes two hours of a man being tortured. At least Braveheart built up to its torture ending with some drama and story to give it substance.

Problem Jesus had, is that it was a DANGEROUS era in those times to go against the church adn religion. While we've now progressed to a society where freedom of religion is a guarantee -- it wasn't like that back then. In fact in many muslim countries you still can't do that. If you claim to be the son of allah right now in Saudi Arabia -- they'll lock you up and give you the death penalty too. Just like Jesus. Nice to see things have changed, and some have remained exactly the same.

The amount of people who have been killed in the name of "religion" since mankind was created -- is mind-boggling.

All you Nay Sayers are missing the point. Jesus' death was part of God's plan. Jesus knew what was going to happen. Everybody played a part. Jesus had to die, plain and simple. That is the way God wanted it.
