Hi again all ....
Well you will be happy to hear this isnt another one of my "I binged and feel disgusting" posts...
although i did carb up today....and i actually enjoyed it...
i had about 300 grams of carbs....now dont get me wrong, this wasnt exactly a planned carb up but it was good bc i dont think i went overboard and i was able to stop it from turning into a week of shitty eating...
anyway, the real reason i am rather pround of myself is..
I feel I am learning to use food rather as a fuel than as a comfort which to me is the greatest thing ever... I have been ketoing for about 3 months now with many ups and downs more due to my history with eating disorders and emotional eating than anything else but I am really starting to feel good...This morning before this little carb fest I was 139 pounds which is down quite a bit from 160....i am aiming to lose another 14 but need to revamp my plan ...
I am now training for a half marathon and have hit some pretty long runs and no carbohydrates running 8 miles doesnt mix...i feel like i am going to die...
anyway, obviously i need to start adding carbs back in but dont want to rebound any of this weight....actually i want to keep losing a few more....i know stick with low GI and such especially bc i am hypoglycemic but any suggestions on some kind of outline i could follow??
thanx as always

First, let me say that I am proud of you, I am glad you are on the path to success and you realize it. ;)

Now, let's talk about marathons:
If you are going to run for such a long duration then you need to do 2 things:
-1 1/2 hr before the marathon eat a LOW-GI/HIGH FIBER carbohydrate meal (i.e. red kidney beans)
-1/2 hr before the marathon eat oatmeal (contains less fiber)
-right before you can have a quick shake of 20g dextrose + 20g protein
-during the run you'll need simple carbs

Thank you for the quick reply...
The actual marathon isnt until february but i am running a lot to train for it so i am looking to add more carbs into my daily diet....not just the day of...any suggestions for this since i dont want to overdo it coming off keto..
thanx again

You can add 100g carbs to your diet, in 30g intervals and do very well w/ it. For example, week 1: 30 carbs, week 2: 60carbs, week 3: 90 carbs, week 4: 100 carbs. At 100carbs a day, you should be able to be in Ketosis if you do not carb-up.

You should use mostly LOW-gi carbs and add low doses of R-ala to the mix. 100mg R-ala a day for the first week, 200mg for second, and 300mg for 3/4th.

Beyond that, you can increase by 20fold (20 carbs) a week w/o any big problems w/ fat gain.

ok sounds good.....as i add carbs do i drop fat?? and keep protein the same???
also will 30g carb/day be sufficient to hold me for a 7 or 8 mile run??

You will drop fat as long as you use up more calories then you take in. On another hand, 30g/day of carbs WILL NOT be sufficient for a 7 mile run.

I'm in the same boat as Ceebs,
I love to hear about people having success in weight loss... Very inspiring to those who think its impossible..
Thanks
Ryan

Thank you everyone...I am working rather hard at this...

Mr. X - What I meant by do I drop fat was, as I add the carbs into my diet, do I take out the fat??

I just got home from college and my house is a mess of holiday treats.....yikes!!! I need to form some kind of plan QUICK!!!!!

I am basically coming off keto but need carbs for the running I am doing so I was thinking of just adding in some oatmeal and low GI type foods, taking out so much fat and counting calories instead of carbs....do u think this will allow me to keep losing or will it cause a major re-gain and destroy all my hard work....I am looking to lose another 15 pounds...
Thanx again everyone!
