Hypnopompic Sleep Paralysis

cindylou said:
OMG. Same here. Crazy people ususally men laughing at me and wispering in my ear while others walk around the room.

I will go to scream ; and I cant get a word out, cant move anything, and a demon type figure is right above my face and laughing at me.

I struggle to move my arms but they wont work ; finally they do in a burst of movement and I run out of the room. Scared as shit that I am being posessed by a demon. How is that happening to me? lol. Crazy shit.

My limbs are also shrivled up into my body like they never worked (one hallucination I had)

Not fun! At first because of my religous upbringing ; I thought I was demon possessed.

I slept in my parents room sometimes at 20 while this was happening.

I have not had an episode in 4 years or so , but I am so stressed at work right now, I'm afraid I'll have another.!!!

Its cool to talk to someone who has been thru that.
Sometimes I won't have one for almost a year, then POOF! I will have several in a row. I have not slept for about 30something hours because I had 3 in 2 days. Now, I gotta work tonight. It sux bad. Good luck.

Speaking of hallucinations, I thought I saw my dead mother yesterday in my living room. I wasn't asleep, dreaming or anything. I was making a sandwich and turned around and thought I saw her standing in the living room. Then, poof, she was gone.

I think pregnancy makes you crazy.
Tru dat, sista.

aw man! I was hoping they were gone for good! Probably not huh? Guess I'm biding my time till my next episode. Sucks for you I'm sorry! I can relate to not wanting to go to sleep.

They say sleeping on your stomach helps, but you cant do that can you?

That could be why they've started up again? You have changed sleeping positions and now you sleep on your back?

Maybe its just an Indep. thing. lol!!

Did you ever get a good explanation for why this happens? I'd really like to know. Is it a physical or mental/ psychological thing?? Its creepy.

This is going to sound very weird and superstitious, but sleep with a shirt on that covers your armpits.

As weird as it sounds, sleeping with exposed armpits contributes to those dreams.

It's prolly happening more because I can't take my sleep meds AND because I can't sleep on my stomach.
I have heard several reasons about why docs think it happens. Mostly a disfunction of the REM cycle causing people to wake up in the middle of a deep sleep period. But hell, I have even been told that I need to meditate because my chakras were out of line. WHF?!?!?!
I'm sure Indy life doesn't help the sittuation, lol.

as long as they are not actually demons/ghosts in the room I guess it does not matter. lol.

Well, I have always managed to survive. As far as living in Indy in concerned, it goes back and forth between feeling like I'm trapped in a circus or a nightmare. I guess it depends on where I am in my work week.

Close. Sleep Paralysis is a safety mechanism. HSP is a disorder of the mechanism. You come out of a stage of rem too quickly causing your brain to wake up before your body stops the safety mechanism(='s awake but skeletal muscle still paralized) and also causes you to bring your unfinished dream with you(='s seeing SCARY shit). It only lasts between 30 seconds and 8 minutes but it still ain't right.

and a much more common disfunction of that system, sleepwalking.

oh a good place to share a freaky anecdote. My highschool friend Paul lost his granddad b/c the old guy lived on a busy road and sleepwalked out in front of a car at 2:00am.
