Seen rem behavior disorder, that's about it... but learned a lot about them in neuro development and pathology, experimental neuro in undergrad. Wasnt trying to be condescending, but a lot of things are confused with sleep paralysis when you're jsut getting SOAP type notes from patients.
No problem. I just hate it when people confuse it with a regular nightmare or night terror. It prolly wouldn't bother me so much but it has caused me to have a TON of scared, sleepless nights with days of exhaustion. I have spent several times over several years 2terrified to sleep or be alone at night. So when people think it's just a nightmare, it's like complaining to a starving person about just getting to eat a cheeseburger instead of a steak. I would happily take a nightmare ANY DAY. That's all.

Close. Sleep Paralysis is a safety mechanism. HSP is a disorder of the mechanism. You come out of a stage of rem too quickly causing your brain to wake up before your body stops the safety mechanism(='s awake but skeletal muscle still paralized) and also causes you to bring your unfinished dream with you(='s seeing SCARY shit). It only lasts between 30 seconds and 8 minutes but it still ain't right.

i HAVE this with crazy vivid hallucinations. It is the scariest shit ever.

Those sound more pleasant. Mine are: evil "somethings" leaning over my bed, old, dead men/old women looking at me from my doorway, things sitting on my chest and sucking my life away, strange animals by my bed, and so on. I get the classic parts about not being able to move anything but my eyes. Can't scream for help, can't turn my head. Can't move at all. Then, it's gone. When it goes away, im still in my bed but I can move and the bad stuff is gone. It's a good way to scare a husband. He just sees my eyes darting back and forth until I snap out of it and turn on every light in the house.

OMG. Same here. Crazy people ususally men laughing at me and wispering in my ear while others walk around the room.

I will go to scream ; and I cant get a word out, cant move anything, and a demon type figure is right above my face and laughing at me.

I struggle to move my arms but they wont work ; finally they do in a burst of movement and I run out of the room. Scared as shit that I am being posessed by a demon. How is that happening to me? lol. Crazy shit.

My limbs are also shrivled up into my body like they never worked (one hallucination I had)

Not fun! At first because of my religous upbringing ; I thought I was demon possessed.

I slept in my parents room sometimes at 20 while this was happening.

I have not had an episode in 4 years or so , but I am so stressed at work right now, I'm afraid I'll have another.!!!

Its cool to talk to someone who has been thru that.

This morning I was dreaming that I was spear fishing. I caught a red snapper and was leaving a blood trail. I looked up and a bull shark was above me. I was praying "please don't circle back" when it made a sharp turn and started circling and bumping. HOLY COW! I was trying to poke it with the spear gun in the nose but it was getting more excited because the damn fish was still on the end of the spear.

:worried:

I have nightmares and vivid dreams often but it sucks when you are awake, your eyes wide open ; LUCID ; but yet you are still dreaming.

I had an interesting dream last. This thread made me remember it lol

Speaking of hallucinations, I thought I saw my dead mother yesterday in my living room. I wasn't asleep, dreaming or anything. I was making a sandwich and turned around and thought I saw her standing in the living room. Then, poof, she was gone.

I think pregnancy makes you crazy.
