how much protein can your body handle in one sitting?

There is no evidence of kidney deterioration in healthy individuals when consuming a high protein diet. All those studies cited were based on those already in renal failure, not applicable to healthy individuals.

Now, there certainly is an amount of protein that will cause damage to the body just like anything we ingest, including water. However, I doubt bodybuilding levels of protein consumption, say between 300g-400g per day won't cause cause ARF/CRF. If extremely high protein intake did cause ARF/CRF then bodybuilders from the 50's and later would be suffering extremely high rates of ARF/CRF.

You're right, those quotes were from study of people already in RF, but they make a point of how high protien intake CAN cause renal damage.

But (and thank you, Java) someone has pointed out that :

"Now, there certainly is an amount of protein that will cause damage to the body just like anything we ingest, including water."

That's basically the point I was trying to make, until someone went postal on me

And finally, to point out again, my example was for a "A 150(pound) bean pole that didn't work out would be in renal failure in no time.". Not a bodybuilder, a regular joe-off-the-street.

It's all relative to what you need. What your body doesn't, it gets rid of, via the sewer system, part being the kidneys. Overload the system over time, and something will give, someday.

Withought taking sups, does anyone know how many grams the average person eats in protein a day?

The only extra I take is a 22g drink after workouts.

The average fat american is said to consume between 12 and 15% of their total cals from protein. In many cases that equates to only 60 to 80 grams a day.:(

Kona, you already showed that your an idiot when you posted studies done on people in renal failure to back up your argument, when I specifically stated that a diet high in protien will not harm HEALTHY NORMAL PEOPLE. Also thanks for trying to send me bad karma, to bad you lack the number of posts required to send anything other than a grey dot. Karma to you bro.:)

Yeah Baby!!!

I think anything over 1 g of protein per lb of lean mass is a waste. Protein is hard on the body in extreme amounts.

Take the money you save and spend it on something worthwhile........like more porn!

At least I know the proper use and spelling of "you're" dipshit

Then my man you should join a spelling forum, and not offer your opinion in areas in which you know little about. I was trying to get accross that a diet high in protien, which is needed to build muscle will not harm anyone with normal kidney function. If you still want to believe in the myth about protein vs. kidney function, go for it and remain either fat or skinny, never to reach your potential.

Peace to all, and to all a good night:)
