How much, compared to your body weight, do you deadlift ?

ie you weight 200 lbs and you deadlift 200 lbs => 100%
ie you weight 200 lbs and you deadlift 300 lbs => 150%

at 204 i deadlifted 335 (~165%) for 2 sets of 6. but that was before mono and no lifting. right now i'm about 196 and dead 265 for the same reps, so ~135%.

I think my best was 550 for 3, not sure. It may have been 2. i weight about 245-250

Have done 705.5 @ 280

at 215lbs, 500 x 9, 625lbs x 1(all totally raw), this year at 245-250lbs, 525lbs x 7(posted a vid of that one)...looking at this I havent added much to my dead in the last 1.5 years

At 188lbs bodyweight (maybe 185 without clothes at the time) I hit 510x1 , doing beast lifts off the floor I came just short of 600. 590 being my best. I recently hit 405x10 on the deads. (guessing I couldve hit 12 if the strap hadnt given out, also wasnt fresh) I estimate my one rep max on deads to be around 515-525 now since my rack pulls have gone up significantly since then. Its usually a 60lb difference between rack and the floor, but it shifts. So over 250% and over 300% on the beast lifts.

588 @ 210.

most people's DL strength lags because they don't work the lift very hard, which is a shame because for hardgainers it's one of the best things you can do (and consistantly working it hard you will get strong at it, unlike the squat or bench where most 'average' people will struggle to get big numbers)

325 @ 180. no straps or belt though. and it was on a bad day in the gym. so maybe 340. probably like 370 with a belt and straps.

Buy some chalk. It is night and day.

Agreed. It makes all the difference. I can grip over 700 with chalk and a mixed grip. Definately adds a few hundred pounds of grip and allows you to hold on for a long time. If not chalk, Id use straps as to not sacrifice heavy deadlifting because of a bad grip.

I'm the only one who does less than 75% of her bodyweight... :bawling:

I do my really heavy sets with a 70 bar... and I'm 120. But my bench is really good. I can do 55 with one of the big bars with a 5 on each side for 10 reps. Grrrrrrr....... :qt:

It is all a start.

I'd think that anyone could deadlift their bodyweight...or at least 125+% with some work...easily.

What are you doing to increase it?

I'm 180lb and lifted 365 today. I did it with all 25's on each side and from the floor. I use 25's because the bar is closer to the ground than using 45's.

I just hit my best deadlift yesterday. 550 at 180lbs. I could probably do a little more, but I dont have a belt to help lock it out at the top.

Fucking awesome brother!! Keep that shit up!! 600 before long!!

Thanks bro 600 is the goal I just started deadlifting about 10 months ago and the first time i ever did it i got 405 pretty easy and the weight has just kept going up without any gear although m1t has helped. I dont know why but deads just come easy to me. Needless to say deads are my favorite exercise along with flat bench. Walking beast im looking at your stats and it looks like incline barbell bench is probably your best exercise 360 is fuckin solid!

ThanX brother!! That is awesome brother!! Fuck! The first time I tried a deadlift I got 300lbs when I was 19. They were awkward for me but I grew to love them. Beast lifts are probabally my best lift. A variation of the deadlift with the bar behind the legs. Something I made up. I can lift so much more weight that way. If I pushed them like deadlifts I dont think it would take long for me to hit 700 off the floor. It is a scary lift though, and Im reluctant to go completely insane on it for fear of tearing or rupturing something. I do go very heavy off the rack though. The position can be awkward and feel somewhat unstable at times. I lean back with the weight instead of forward.
ThanX!! The Inclines have always been pretty close to my flat bench. Probabally since I gave both pretty equal attention for a long time. Get out there and KILL that 600lb deadlift!! I want to hear about that in the coming months! TRAIN OR FUCKIN DIE!!

Club rule...no chalk, can you believe it? Although I've seen a few sneak it in and try to use it unsuspectingly...

No barefoot/Sandles either....

Hey, what do you expect for only $80 bucks a month....(family membership)

They dont like it in my gym, thats for sure. But I dont like them mentioning it either. So they leave me alone for the most part. The knurling is bad on the bars anyway and I get sick of getting blisters on my hands from jamming them in the bar rest on the bench presses, (hands sliding). Straps will work though, if you dont want to deal with that bullshit.

Ya beast Im gonna try the beast lift wednesday when i do back. Do you do deads and beasts in the same workout or just 1 a week? 590 is alot of fucken weight man great job. Do you feel the beast lift has helped or hurt your deads?

Hey brother!! I do the beast lifts in the same workout typically, though Ive skipped deadlifts a few times and concentrated on just the beast lift along with the rest of my rowing and back work. Heres a typical routine set up, an exerpt from my journal:

(6 or more hours) (192lbs on water only)

T-Bar Rows with Barbell:

35x20 (35lb plate on end of barbell)
70x15 (2 35's)
105x15
140x15
175x15 (5 35's)
210x6 (came loose from wall)
210x6
235x4 (6 35's and a 25)
210x7
175x15

Wide Grip Chin-ups:

15

Close Grip Chin-ups:

15 (underhanded) (chin-ups done at different parts of routine)

T-Bar Rows with barbell (again):

160x15
180x15
205x10 (4 45's and a 25lb plate)

Partial Deadlift: (lowest setting on power rack)

135x15
225x12
315x1
405x1
500x1
530x1
555x1
575x1 (Another 5lb PR)
585 (fail)

Clean and Jerk:

135x7 (first time trying the lift, fucking around)

Dumbell Curls:

65'sx6
55'sx5 (just having a little fun between sets)

Partial Beast Lifts: (a deadlift with the bar behind the legs, done off lowest setting on power rack)

585x1
635x1
675x1
700x1
730x1 (5lb PR, I almost got it a while ago, but the other side came loose)\
735 (fail)

Lat Pulldowns:

165x15
180x15

Abs:

Kneeling Rope Crunches:

190x15
190x15
190x15
190x15

ThanX for the compliment also brother! This is how I usually do it, though lately Ive been switching it up and going by how I feel, with this injury looming. I think the beast lift has helped my deads alot, since its gotten me used to feeling the much heavier weights (700 plus) not to mention strengthening the muscles involved, since Im putting a much greater load on my muscles. Even without the beast lifts its likely my deadlifts would still be similiar, but the beast lifts motivate me alot as well. I like to be able to go to failure on the deads, then if Im weak, instead of letting it fuck with me, I move right into beast lifts and it gives me another chance to be strong. Usually if Im strong in one, Im strong in the other on a given day. And even on my weak days Im good for a 700lb beast lift off the rack, so it feels good. Hope that helps!!

I am up to 200@ 171. I have not been doing DLs for long and have been SUPER careful with them due to a history of lower back problems, but, I have yet to try a PR and miss. By the end of the summer I will have 250 easy, maybe even more. It is easily my favorite lift.

I was sceptical of dl's as well thinking that has to be awful for your back..Then one day i just started doing them in my basement with literally 60lbs..yeah it was light as hell but i was more worried about form..i've been doing them less than a year and im a hair away from 500lbs..make sure you have flawless form before u start to pile the weight on and you should be ok!!!

Pulling 5 wheels a side was the best feeling i ever had in the gym, better than benching 405. You will feel like the man when you do.

i hear ya loud and clear im about 2 weeks away i think..strength is coming up nicely good form..personally i like doing deads the most.. :supercool

Haven't gone for my 1rm, so not positive...but with 8 reps at 405, I estimate I should be able to hit 475. BW currently is 258.

I got 405 but I forget how much I weighed, either just over or just under 180, so I gave myself the benefit of the doubt and said 225-250 (405 is exactly 225% of 180) ah fuck it there were collars on there for an extra 5# so I can say that.

impressive yourself :)

I'd like to get to 3x bodyweight with the straight bar eventually, I've done it with the trap bar but that's mechanically a lot easier.

smurfy you kick ass, 185 for reps is awesome

Congrats !

Was it romanian, Sumo, stiff legs DL ?

When I started deadlifting a year ago I was doin 135 for reps. This year I was doing 225 fo reps. Up until about a month ago when I changed form. I now reset and think about my grip and starting position really quick every rep, and Im now working out with 315 to 325 for about 5. The thing is I dont use starps or a belt. My grip is having a hard time getting the last few reps. I also use an over hand grip with both hands. I just cant switch that yet. My roomate says I could do more if I do...What do you guys think ???

Your grip will definitely be stronger with an alternated grip. Most people do their left hand backwards. It should be good for at least an extra 100#.

You might also want to look into a hook grip if you're really anti-straps.

Yeah, Im not anti-straps I just wanted to strenghten my grip. I may start using straps on my last or last two sets. I did that last week and I guess I improve grip and then put up more weight my last set. Im going to try alternating grip this week ....

I want 405 #'s Really Really bad !!! Its mine :)

I remember when I got 405. My routine was 135x10, 275x5, 315x5, 315x5 (I'm not sure on the 275, coulda been more).

Once I did that for 2 or 3 weeks I was ready to try for 405 and I nailed it. Oh yeah also in the meantime I had tried 365 and 385 for singles too.

No problem bro you'll get it.

Yeah I cant wait. 405 will be nice, I think I am going to make that a priority. What are some excerises that may help support that lift ?? I could work on those as well.

THat is kind of how I do my DLs right now - 1st 2 sets x 10, then next 2 sets x 8. Every 4 weeks or so I will go low reps and high weight. I have found this combo of high/low reps really increases my strength and muscle endurance.

Where do you fail in the lift?

ab stuff with resistance, stiff leg deads, rack pulls/deads off a box (depending on your weakness), Hyperextensions with resistance, good mornings

I havent failed at 405. Its just at 325 I can feel my form suffering. Lower back basically, But I can pull that shit up and lock it out....Proabably with more than 325 it just may round my back. I dont want to get hurt, but Im building more power every week....Some stronger than others....

Pulled a pretty solid 660 x 1 raw last week...after some pretty intense box squats with bands. I want 680 in the next 3 weeks and 700+ will fall again late this Fall.

guess my 1rm is around 600 but I got greedy and wasted the chance to find out by jumping to 615

Anyone use hooks ?? I really like doing mine raw. But I was thinking just to get me to 405 a little faster I could use a hook on the last set just to build power....Does that make sense ??

Do u mean lifting hooks or a hook grip?

There is absolutely no reason in the world to use one of those gay lifting hooks that are built into the gloves. IF you must use something use a strap, and pro wrist straps are the best for your money.
