Always heard that you should only do 30-45mins of cardio or else you go catabolic BUT what if you did 30mins of cardio, ate, an hour later did 30 mins, etc wouldnt you burn fat and keep from going catabolic or into starvation mode?

Unless the person is a mesomorph, or on gear, 60 minutes a day of cardio is going to tend to be somewhat catabolic.

I don't think there are any universal numbers because the conditioning of the athlete is a huge factor, but generally though the work doesn't become truly aerobic until after about the 30 minute mark, and after roughly 45-50 minutes total you become rather likely to sacrifice a bit of skeletal muscle to keep exercising.

I would suggest not doing more than 40 minutes total, in one session, on any given day. Even keeping it a 40 min I don't think daily sessions would be a great idea if maintaining all his lean body mass is a high priority for him. And NO empty stomach cardio. That is definitely catabolic.

I was going to start cardio jump rope today to help aid in lowering bf%. whats this about losing skeletal muscle? haha what is skeletal muscle anyways? I dunno why but that scared me. Might have been the "losing muscle part" or maybe it was the "skeletal" part. Skeletons are scary.
