Pump is a poor indicator growth/strength progress. The deadlift doesn't cause much of a pump in a single body part yet it is one of the most effective massbuilders.
1 intense chest workout per week is considered optimal.
Many lifters train 1 heavy day and 1 speed oriented day (read light weight) later during the week.
The only lifters training the bench 3 times per week drastically limit all of the other lifts and generally train lightly at first and gradually build intensity on 1 heavy day per week. (Stephen Korte's 3x3 Powerlifting Program is an example and consists of only the Squat, Bench, and Dead trained 3 days per week every day - Romanian Olympic lifters are also known for training frequently - do not try this unless you really know what you're doing)
Any more than this and you will cut into gains. You grow when you aren't training. So you can either walk around pumped training chest 3 times per week or you can make progress and train less. Don't let ego in the way of progress.
