How many days a week do you do core work.

iIwant to do abs everyday so i can get my lower abs to show but i was told by a friend everyother day i will see the best results. How many days a week do you train your abs.

Overworking your abs is a bad idea. Actually, overworking any body part is a bad idea and you will actually see less progress.
 
is this ok:

Monday: Cardio, Abs, Boxing, Leg work
Tus:Cardio,abs,Boxing
WED:Cardio, Boxing, Leg work
thurs:Cardio,abs,Boxing
fri:Cardio,Boxing, Leg work
sat:Cardio,abs,Boxing, Chest, Back
sun:Cardio, Boxing, Arms
 
Monday Squat/Bench/Row/Sit Ups/Hypers

Wednesday Squat/Military press/Deadlift/hanging leg raises

Friday Squat/Bench/Row/Dips/Chins/Russian Twists/Hypers


This routine really works my core. Give it a try ;)
 
i call bullshit on the overtraining of abs. abs and calves get worked everyday. the only time abs and your core doesnt get work is when youre sleeping. boxers train their abs every single day, i dont see a difference in the abs from boxing and the abs in bodybuilding, except the fact that a boxers abs can take a beating, they stick with high reps while bodybuilders add weights and go low reps. i work my abs 6 days a week, 3 days with resisitance, 3 days just bodyweight.
 
I've always thought you couldn't overtrain abs? I generally work them each time I lift but I only lift 3 days a week so it's not that much.

I guess that's true, i've always been told to only do abs a couple times a week.

I guess it could also be said that since you do work your abs with almost everything you do, theres not really a need to do abs every day.

definitely not necessary to do abs everyday. i know a guy who works his abs 15-20 minutes once a week with 3-4 exercise and 4 sets each. and he competes. boxers do it everyday for the endurance so it can take all those hits. im jus a little obssessive when it comes to abs, i do it once a week in the off season but when i diet or cut, i do it more. i think 3 times a week is perfect or every other day.
 
i hit abs every workout... 5 times a week

alternating between
1)
400 crunches
200 side crunches
100 side bends
100 twists
200 leglifts

2)
150 situps
100 knee raises

and

3)

weighted cable crunch
4 sets 12 reps
weighted seated crunch
4 sets 12 reps
roman chairs



also i do calves 2wice a week ... one heavy day one light day

I train my abs 3x a week.
 
i hit abs every workout... 5 times a week

alternating between
1)
400 crunches
200 side crunches
100 side bends
100 twists
200 leglifts

2)
150 situps
100 knee raises


and

3)

weighted cable crunch
4 sets 12 reps
weighted seated crunch
4 sets 12 reps
roman chairs

i could never do those workouts they would be so boring
 
300 a night at the minimum. just simple crunches. really doubt this would ever be considerd over training.
 
the oonly way you can overtrain abs is if you dont work them...then you work them everyday...if you gradually bump it up your fine.
 
only time i ever train abs directly is sometimes when i finished the workout i do 2-3 sets hanging leg raise i never plan to do an ab workout or include abs in my split
 
im inspired to hit the abs hard soon, might do it after leg workout on friday :evil:
bro i think you should abs and cardio hard for a week. Also i was reading your journal and u said you have a slow metabolism. If you want to increase you need to do alot more cardio it increases your metabolism wicked believe me i know as soon as i eat something i have to go to the bathroom lol.

LOL. Thats' me! My wife hates going out to eat with me :D

My ab work is somewhat limited to when my low back says "enough". I'm still only about 3 years out from a severe back injury. I'm still working my way back into a lot of ab work. It is key to a healthy back though.
 
try doing all your workouts with some form of core involved. example... chest presses on a ball not a bench. squats on a half ball. do as many different exercises standing. then do traditional ab exercises two or three times a week.

heavy lifting stimulates the metabolism waaaay more than cardio... going to the bathroom after eating has nothing to do with this either...

Im not sure if I have a slow metabolism, wierd thing is it seems to speed up at night, but Im an endo and endo's have a slow metabolism... I did abs after back and they are sore as fuck today, I only did 6 sets lol. I did:
Decline Cable Situp
3 plates x 8 reps
2 plates x 10 reps
1 plate x 12 reps

then 3 supersets of hanging knee raise and weighted hypers

Abs are like calves - I wana train them, but after a workout its not fun an I cant be bothered after Im blown from hard liftin it takes time and I dont like being in the gym ages either. But I really need to...

ABS SHOULD BE WORKED ALL THE TIME...not just when cutting How you gonna impress those girls if your shoulders and chest are looking good but its all in vain when she looks at a big old beer gut starring back at her???? Arnold said abs are the most impressive bodypart....when everything else is up to par id have to agree.
