How long after rotator cuff surgery, must I wait to train heavy?

How long after rotator cuff surgery, must I wait to train heavy? First 1–2 months I did the physical therapy and still do a couple of rotator cuff exercises at the beginning of every training session. I started weight lifting (light, very light at first) 3 months after surgery. It is now five months after surgery and almost all pain is gone however, I still feel weak in the repaired shoulder. I would like to start going a little heavier working up to heavy over a couple months but I don’t want to re-injure my shoulder and want to know if it is too early to take this course of action.

Thanks,

Thermo

Thermo, are you still online? I recently had rotator cuff surgery and am at the 3 month mark now. Wondering about the same things you were back in '08. If you are still online, I'd welcome anything you can share about how your return to the iron went since then. Thanks much.
