How do you do it?

For those who have jobs or work from 9-5, how to you go about eating when it comes to bulking up,

What kinda stuff do you have and when do you eat it?

IcE

It's a bitch but I take tinned mackerel fillets and ready prepared sliced chicken breast and take two meals after I get home

Bro, I run my own electrical business. My day starts at 6am an ends at 7pm everyday. Have a family. It's tough brotha. I make all my meals every night, from turkey sandwiches to stir fry chicken. I bought a cooler from Walmart. It's really nice, It holds all vitamins and meals in different containers. I work out 6 days a week, 730pm to 9. It's tough man. But nothing like muscle and feeling great!!! Good luck bro

Disssssssssscipline

I feel you. Its what EZ says. Takes preparation. Hopefully you can get access to a fridge otherwise cooler. Prep meals before hand, cook in bulk. 5 days a week you work, workout, eat, cook, little quality time with lady, sleep. That's all.

Well you see, I have this remote that controls the universe, like in the movie click. So I pause time right after work but before dinner and hit my training up. Simple as that :D

Then when I realize thats impossible but sweet to dream about, my reality? Working swing shift, 60-72hrs a week. I have an extremely cooperative and supportive Fiancee who helps free up just enough time to do everything I need to do in the day and slide in some training everyday of the week.

Bro Im at the gym @ 5:45 until 7:45 I eat before I go. I eat when I come home. Work from 9 until 7. So that works out to eat at 11 again at 2 again at 5 and again at 730 when I get home. Shake at 930 before bed and get up the next day and repeat. That's just life when you body build. I prepare most of my meals on Sunday and make sure to always have emergency food around my office like protein bars or a blender bottle with a scoop of protein to mix w water. For me I have to prioritize. Like EZ said it takes alot of discipline.

I work 12hr rotating shifts at a major hospital. I pack 4 or 5 meals in a cooler and bring them to work with me. Whenever I get a few minutes downtime between patients, I eat something. I make a lot of easy things like sandwiches, salads with lots of egg whites, and I always have a protein shake or two with me. I get to work 2hrs early and work out at the hospital's gym, which is actually pretty decent, then shower and go to work. It does suck sometimes when we get a medivac flight in and we're slammed for 15hrs, but most of the time it works out alright. If you've got the will, you'll find a way.

Working 8 hours a night sometimes with a 15 minute total break (can only eat so much in 10 minutes I've found out) then Uni during the day from 9-4 (break is walking from place to place), leaves little time for eating, let alone sleeping haha.

What's some decent food you guys can take without a cooler required? (brown rice with canned tuna) kinda stuff.

How do you keep sanity in a 15 hour shift man? That's beast haha 0_0

Damn you crazy workaholics :P, I like the idea of working out in the morning.
Great start to the day :D, I love training as the sun is setting
with some epic music playing. I have to live on pasta, bread, tuna, salmon, milk, almonds and eggs while at work, it works out
ok. :)

Lol whoever said I was sane? Seriously, it does get a little crazy on a 15hr+ shift, but those aren't very frequent. When they happen, I just skip the gym that day and re-structure my workouts that week. Also, I've got a very supportive and totally awesome wife who keeps the household going so all I have to do is cook my food, lift, and work. If I didn't have access to a fridge or cooler, I'd pack things like canned chicken/tuna, whole wheat breads and bagels, PB, and my homemade protein bars.

its discipline : my day

wake up 3.30 am
4.00 am pre workout meal , oats and whey shake
4.30 am banana
5 am - workout
6.30 am - post workout shake
7.30 am - arrive at work
8.00 am- oats and 12 eggs

etc etc

i get home at 6.30-7pm every night, spend 45min to 1 hour preparing all my meals in tupperwares , get clothes ready , shower and in bed by 10pm

i am fortunate in that at work i can eat when i want and as often as i want . :supercool

repeat repeat repeat

Lol 15 hour days?? 16's are a staple around here. Long days like that can make your head definitely spin. I work at least 2 a week. Almost every week. And I still train hard after those doubles. I find that if I beat myself up good before I hit the bed, I sleep better even though I'm only getting about 5 1/2-6 hours of sleep on those days. It helps having iron clad willpower. Sometimes I talk to my biceps and will them to grow. :/ lol.

Haha. Yeah I work 12hr night shifts. It sucks sometimes cuz on my days off my whole daily schedule useually changes. Then I have to change it back for work. It took some time to cope but I found a way. My typical day I wake up at at 1eat, 215-preworkout, 245-415 workout, 415pwo, 7eat, 9eat,11pm-eat,1am-eat,3am-eat,5am-eat snack on the way home,630am- shake b4 bed. Then repeat the next day. I make 5-7 days worth of meals at a time and always have bread/pb/nuts in my cooler incase something happens where I can't eat my meals on time.

I normally leave my house at 7 and get home around 9

a cooler is the only way I can manage it.

In it right now..
2 breakfast sandwiches ill microwave those.. when I dont have a microwave they just go in tinfoil in a bag until I eat them so they stay hot
2 chobani greek yogurt
2 bannas
3 sandwiches today its tuna fish and turkey
1 small baggie of protein powder
2 protein bars

and im gonna be home around 4pm today but i always pack a ton incase i have to stay late or if things are hectic or if i get called into my other 'job' tonight ill still have food

Insane is a subjective term, don't you guys think it's insane to eat fast food? Not train?

I don't find it all that hard to do, yeah getting up @ 4:30 takes getting used to (especially in the winter) but I like cooking and 2-3 times a week grilling up a few days worth of chicken, veggies, eggs etc. is something I enjoy....

I agree. All goes back to discipline and dedication bro.

Lol just do what i do, I either carry a like back pack with my shaker cup, fork and tuna plus I always have something in my pockets. May sounds abit ridiculous but...

work 12 and a half hour 7 day roster I get 2 small breaks, day an night shift. Im either at the gym 4:30 am before work or 7:30pm after work so when I work I'm flat pushed for time (plus I got 2 little boys). I still manage at least 5 days a week gym.

Also keep in mind if you're doing it right you're not in the gym 3 hours a day, 7 days a week....

If you see me somewhere without my cooler its cuz someone has died! It goes everywhere with me and if im asked to do something and cant, for some reason bring my cooler than im not doing it, end of discussion.
I told my girl,if we were on a Mountain and you and my cooler went over the edge at the same time...well im sorry but im reaching for the cooler!
Needles to say she no longer challenges me about the cooler :-)

I have a nice desk job where my boss has a relaxed atmosphere. Everyone eats whenever. My boss lifts and so do most of the people in my dept :)

Overheard in my office every day:

EZ, why are you eating again?

EZ, you're eating again?

EZ, how do you drink so much water?

EZ, what's that vitamin you're taking?

~EZ

I take protein bars with me everywhere I go. A full box (12 I think?) gets eaten every 3 or 4 days. They are 30 grams each. Throw in a few 40-50 gram shakes and around 3 reasonable meals and you'll find yourself at 250ish grams of protein a day. I try to focus on quality carbs with my meals too. I don't worry about my fat consumption. I just eat what I like and tastes good.

I come from a time where I used to put two cans of tuna and 0.5 litre of water in the mixer and blend for 30 secs then drink it, usually twice a day due to time constraints or not wanting to leave the office.. Few capsules of Omega-3 with that and you had the perfect meal :). Until you starting to worry about mercury levels..
Nowadays I actually have a chef that cooks for me everyday (And no, it is not my wife ;). I am living in a place where maid/cook cost less than my HGH use per month).
But with age also comes the "wisdom" that it is not the end of the day if I miss a meal here or there or have to live like a nazi to get results. But I guess as with everything else it boils down to priorities... Hardcore training is a lifestyle. Just as with anything you want to become really good at.

I always wondered how good I would be at an instrument if I put in 2-2.5 hours daily for 15 years and also the time on internet "researching"...

You buy them I'm guessing? Decent quality protein bars here sell around 4-5+ bucks per bar haha.

anyone make homemade ones? And any ideas how to stop them being sticky?! This drives me crazy :)

I get 12 packs of supreme protein 30gram bars for $34.50 at my gym. That's less then $3 each.
