How do diamond prices compare around the world?

A $5,000 1 carat white diamond in beverly hills..

is it the same price in say china, or malaysia or mexico? Do they fluctuate? Can you save huge bucks by buying the same diamond in another country?

I know the DeBeers diamond mafia does it's best to ensure prices remain high across all boundaires -- but surely someplace must sell them w/o 5000% markup.

You can find 1 carat rocks fort less than 5,000 in the states. In the world, they should be cheap in Israel, since Jews take them from Africa and export them to U.S. I'm pretty sure that's the way it works.

For a .75 carat diamond and then .66 carats in baguets I paid 5000 CDN last summer in T.O., that was without the band. I forget the numbers off hand but cut and clarity and colour was very high.

Also keep in mind that many jewellers have replaced ground diamonds with lab made diamonds. The profits are 3 times higher and no one can ever tell a dffirence. Even when you bring it to a lab to get it tested, it will test as a genuine 1 karat diamond. Lab made diamonds are very high sellers right now and the best thing is that women will never be able to spot the diffirence even when they bring it to the lab to get it tested.

Yes, but many jewllers are FORBIDDEN from selling lab diamonds, hence losing their privilege of receiving authentic diamonds. No one wants to chance that.

Plus most guys, at the end -- opt to buy the real thing. In their mind the horror of 20 years down the line, her finding out it ain't real -- is frightening. Granted, most of it is pure fear-mongering on the part of DeBeers who are pretty crass at their marketing tactics to save their monopoly.

What is wrong with you guys? Are you a bunch or babies that have to have everything handed to them?

Ever here, of hiring a rag-tag group of burned out mercenaries, going to Africa and getting your own god damn diamonds.

Sure you might have to fight a small war, you'll lose half your men, and get caught, thus having your head chopped off. But, think off the rewards that await you if you are indeed successful.

You'll be bringing those African conflict diamonds back in Hockey bags, you'll have so much.

You're lady gets a nice diamond, at a great price. And just maybe, you make a couple million in the process.

Everybody wins. At least that's the way i see it.
