a lot of natives were i live, a very humble respectful lot.
the sterotype about drunken indians is very true, as un-pc as that might seem.
it has really fucked up their already decimated community

There aren't any Native American ghettos for one thing. At least not like black ghettos. They also have casinos. Like you said, there are also a lot more blacks than indians living in this country anyway to be bitching about stuff. Maybe it also has to do with their temperamant in general.

The one in Eastern Maine is really poor. Average salary of $12,000 annually, no insurance.

It's about as poor as poor can be. The State blocked their efforts to run a casino and then blocked their efforts to construct an LNG site. They have no income other than the ability to sell tax credits.

yeah i guess so...but you proly knew a few natives in cal-city, so you know what i'm talking about. the can't hold their liquor worth a piss.

Reservations do not = ghetto, there just happens to be more wealthy tribes than others because not all have the "casino" to draw from. And the majority of tribes have actually been expanding into other long term ventures like utlities plants to communications and manufacturing. Unfortunately the "reservations" typically seen on TV and portrayed in Hollywood, are the dustbowl type with one general store and 16 taverns (these do exist more than they need to but all reservations are not like that.). The alcoholism rate is still seemingly high though, mostly due to the fact that the native population is much less than others, so it "seems" to be running far more rampant than it is. The Native alcoholism rate is actually not really much higher than it is for any other race. Natives just have the very true stigma attached to them from the time alcohol was actually introduced to them.

Could be, and you made a good point about reservations='ing ghettos. I never really thought of it on those terms. Although there are many that do well, as long as there's a casino nearby. Most of the one's I grew up near seemed to get by well enough. Some Ojibwa indians came to one of our classes in highschool once and talked about their culture, life on the reservation. Showed pictures and stuff. They seemed to have a good disposition about it, at least as good as you can considering their history and where it led them. They made us some indian dessert, don't remember exactly what it was but it was very good. Sort of like Finnish pancakes if you know of them.

In any case though, they're repressed and their culture is pretty much destroyed. I guess if anyone else saw no real hope of restoring it they would likely turn to alcohol to numb the pain too. For some reason though they seriously can't hold their alcohol very well. Same as most Asians. Isn't there a connection between the two though? I though Indians were originally Asiatics before we dubbed them "Native Americans."

Blacks have definitely had more support though in mainstream culture, and have strived more than Indians in general to get ahead. Granted there are a lot more of them, but still. Maybe if the indians had their own Abraham Lincoln.... hell it could be anything. I think blacks have a more aggressive temperament to begin with though, so that might have something to do with it.

Interesting topic though, I'm actually curious about this now.
