Herniated Discs

Curse

New member
I just found out I have 3 herniated discs ( I knew for a while, just had it confirmed by a Doctor). I was told I won't need surgery unless it gets worse. I'm looking to hear from anyone with a similar problem and if it's wise to drop exercises like squats and deadlifts ( my Doctor said if I can do them and doesn't hurt then it's ok). Also is there any gear or exercises that would help this injury?
Thanks

Ive made many posts on the topic of sprains/strains and essentially that is what a slipped disk is. Your spine is held in place by various ligiments etc and when they get stretched the vertibrea can put uneven stress on the disk causing it to bulg or rupture. It can be very painfull and many people simply load up on anti-inflamatories to mask the pain and continue on their way. The problem is the pain is a side effect of the inflamation which in turn is also a key element in healing. Anti-inflamatories reduce/eliminate the inflamation and with it all the benefits its brings.

I recommend you look into prolotherapy, I have quite a few posts here on it or do some reading at prolonews.com

I read one of your posts on Prolotherapy and asked my spine doctor about it, he basically laughed and said it's useless, someone is getting rich off of shooting sugar water into people.

That is exactly what I heard about it....

Of course he did, saying anything else would mean that he wasted tons of money, time etc learning to be a surgeon. It would also mean he is admitting he likes putting people through unneeded medical treatments to line his pockets.

Cmon guys, there is as much clinical backing saying prolo works as their is on all these latest butcher tactics.

What I find real ironic is people simply dont listen to anything they dont want to hear. If everyone here thought their docs word was gospel we would have a handfull of AAS users instead of thousands. I have talked to a few doctors who have never heard of prolotherapy yet without any research into it admit that the fundamentals behind it are sound. If I were you and a doc laughed at me I would run the other way, but hell, its your back and your money, good luck.

I'm not agreeing with the Doctor, I'm researching it more. Also, he wasn't looking to line his pockets , told me I didn't need surgery unless it got worse.

Just because he didnt recommend surgery doesnt mean he wasnt lining his pockets, he has to have some accountablility after all, he cant just toss everyone under the knife. Most people in the medical community are not familiar with prolo so if thats where you do your research you will get largely negative comments, its that simple. Hell, not long ago the medical community tried treating AIDS with corticosteroids and if you know anything about them you know they wreak havoc on the immune system. Needless to say it was a horrific failure.

On a side note, I have nothing to gain by recommending prolo to you except the gratification in seeing you get better and return to a normal active lifestyle without the fear of screwing yourself up. Either prolo works and works well or it is one hell of a placebo effect I get because I have had it done on both elbows, both shoulders, middle back and left ankle and I wouldnt hesitate to have it done for any future injuries.

Have you ever done any cycles Curse? I'm not advocating doing a cycle, but if you search for posts from me, you will see a TON dealing with my very same issue (3 herniated disks in my lower back). The only thing that cured me (after 3 years) was a cycle of Tren/Prop. I don't know why. I don't care. It just worked. BTW - I never tried Prolo, but I was considering it at the time I "discovered" the tren/prop cure (by accident on a cycle).

You can do a great deal with corrective exercise, stretching & alternative therapies. I do thid weekly with clients. first where are the disks - cervical, thoracic, lumbar etc.
What is your current exercise routine? with this info & some testing you can start a corrective exercise program

Also Prolotherapy is no joke! works, but only in about 85% of the cases which is still great!!

I've done a few cycles and my back has been fine. I'm pretty sure the injury happened in '99. Lumbar discs L2 , L4-L5. Wrestling injury. I still squat and deadlift, not nearly as heavy as I used to but still a decent amount. Sometimes I feel a little discomfort that I can work through, sometimes no pain at all, sometimes I just skip the squats or D-lifts.
Would squats and deadlifts be bad for this type of injury, even if they don't hurt while doing them?
I am going to look further into prolotherapy.
