I was considering getting these tapes on Boxing. I want to develop some power and some basic skills before I go to the gym. The hype says "A collection of savage punches, head butts, elbows and stomps that will enable you to devastate even the toughest opponent" (no, I don't believe it)also some stuff about chain drills, slips, bob's, weaves, cuff and cover ect.ect.ect. Any of you guys have an opinion on this tape? Just looking for a little info to help me decide. Also considering combatives by Jim Grover. Thank's for your opinion. Mike

i would just joing a gym if you can afford it.. just go in say you know nothing really and want to learn.

it is possible that you could develop some bad habits that would impede your progress later on

also if you want to box then just get a basic instructional video on boxing not superkrazy boxing

if you need help finding good instructionals on boxing or finding a gym in your area let me know

Here is a really good suggestion first join a gym and pick up this guys book Boxing as a martial art by ned beuamont. His book has the more street techniques in it and covers boxing from a martial standpoint. Okay what would be good is learn from the gym the basics then ask if u can learn some techniques from the book from your coach. Also u must ask is what style of boxing u want to learn. The two types in my opinion is self defense and then there is the old competive sport style.

Thank's for the replies. You've given me some food for thought. Good points on developing bad habits and what form of boxing. All I really care about now is a solid foundation for self defense but later on who knows? I will check out that book and also try to find a basics video. Again, many thank's.

I had to look up the vids you were talking about, but yeah, what Judo Tom said.
"Extreme" boxing is going to send you in a little different direction than you will need to go for regular boxing. Now, you KNOW that back when you were boxing , they weren't teaching you head butts and stuff.
I think that since you've boxed already and it wasn't 10 years ago , you still have the basics. Skip the tape and get with a coach to polish up what you may be rusty on, then learn grappling.
