Haircut disaster!

God all mighty the bitch scalped me!!! I am so depressed right now. I feel like a shaved poodle. :bawling:

My regular stylist is on maternity leave or something and my cut needed tweaking and I caved in and let someone else there do me. Mistake #1.

And ladies dont ever let them turn you away from the mirror when they start cutting. Be a bitch if neccesary, but insist that they leave the chair facing the mirror at all times.

I'm actually considering extensions till it grows out a bit.....it's that bad.

Aw man! So sorry to hear about that 'Belle! I know how that feels... I have long hair & I get pissed when they cut more than I tell them to. I've been going to my guy for YEARS! & one time I went to a different place 'cause I didn't feel like going that far for a hair cut...well it turned out to be a big mistake! I wanted to kill this lady!

I refuse to have a female cut my hair!!!

Why do they so often do that???? Seems like they always try to cut more than you tell them....damn! I'm like, you know what?....I AM a grown woman and I know what I want, which is for YOU to cut exactly one inch (or whatever). NOT two inches....or whatever you think would look just precious with my face...but exactly what the paying customer is telling you to cut.

Janet I seriously feel like I'm bald. Any shorter and I'd look like a professional softball player or butch lesbian chick.

How short is it?

I'd say no more than 4 inches tops, which is a good 2 inches shorter than I specified. Even the 6 inch layers I wanted was an experiment....my hair had never in my life even been that short. My hair is obscenely thick and it's already blazing hot in Atlanta so I thought I'd go crazy short.
Now I'm crazy bald.

OMG!

Is it a least a good hair cut?
Does your hair grow fast?

I know how you feel - I had shoulder length hair YEARS ago and I wanted a trim - and my hair was barely chin length. That was the last time he cut my hair - took forever for me to find another hairdresser.

Yes it is a good cut. Pains me to say I paid $65 to get scalped. And yep my hair grows real fast. I've actually measured it in the past....grows about 9 inches a year. So in six months (groan!) I'll be back to a respectable length.

I wish we could get a cut we're happy with at home like guys. My bf shaves his off with one of those home kits with the plastic guards and it comes out fine. The price (and price!) of beauty....:(

Exact same thing happened to me a few months ago. My regular stylist was away on her honeymoon and I needed a trim badly. I let some jackass trim my hair. He spun me around so that I wasn't facing the mirror. I walked out of there with hair up to my ears and my hair was past my shoulders. I wanted to cry! My boyfriend was probably more pissed than me. Had he of been with me he would of killed the guy. Last month I got extentions and now my hair is down to my butt. I love them. Especially since my hair frizzes really bad in the humid summer months. Now I don't have to worry about that. It took some getting used to at first though. They were painful the first few days. They are also quite expensive.

Sorry to hear about your bad cutting experience ANYA.... It took me forever to find someone I trusted, I lucked out a friend of mine went to school. It is totally cool now, she makes suggestions, but knows how I like my hair, so she never does anything I dont want... And you are so lucky everyone that your hair grows fast, mine only grew fast when I was pregnant... And I aint going there right now.. Anyone have any ideas on something that makes your hair grow faster????

Anya, I know how you feel. 2 summers ago I was having my hair permed. My guy was on vacation and I was going away for a weekend with my husband and a friend. I used her guy, he came to my house, and completely ruined my hair! His words "It looks like melted cotton candy!" That morning my hair was up in a pony tail, that evening I swear, I had ONE INCH of fried hair on my head. I looked like a complete freak. I was also kind of drunk and didn't realize how bad it was until I woke up the next morning and I just totally lost it. I showered and put on a hat and went immediately to the wig shop by myself, crying the whole way. The woman was very nice and helpful and I left with 2 wigs and cried every day for weeks afterwards, especially when I showered and looked in the mirror. I was in a real depression over it not to mention uncomfortable wearing a wig in the middle of summer in Florida. My hair also grows insanely slow and although it's been 2 years, my hair is just getting to be shoulder length now with only minimal trimming.

I say go for the extensions if it'll make you feel better! My hair was so damaged that they weren't an option for me at the time.

My hair takes really well to any sort of chemicals, so I only go to ONE person to do my hair.

I went to someone new once to get my hair permed when I was 16, and it looked like an afro my hair was so burnt and horrible...I had to get it cut right off, and have hot oil treatments every week. Thanks GOODNESS my hairdresser is my cousin, she did it all for free for me.

That's a good depiction of how I'm feeling......

I've got been avoiding mirrors completely. When I go to the ladies room I just stay away from the mirror. I put on my little bit of work makeup this morning in the rearview mirror so I knew I could easily avoid seeing my hair.

Puddles or anyone else, how much do extensions cost? Not the maintenance, just the initial cost?

I have no idea but I'm curious. Also, what is the maintainence like for them? If it's not a lot of work I'd love to get them for a nice change.

I should probably search on Google...Google has all the answers! LOL

that sucks anya i know how you feel i hav ehad more than a few hair disasters and they were bad my last one caused me to cut my hair really short and that was about a month and a half ago the lady works at jcpenny and i was kind of in a hurry and omg i looked like i belonged in "that 70s show" it was bad.
im not sure how much extensions cost but i hope everything goes well for you

I'm sure it would depend on the region you are in as well as other things.

I'm in Florida. I paid $140 to have the extensions put in my hair. It took approx. 3 hours early on a Saturday morning. Before I chose to get extensions at this particular salon I had several consultations and researched the different types of extensions available. I went with the hair weaving way. This way my extensions didn't need to be removed daily and put back in. This also promotes hair growth. They braid your hair across in several rows and weave the extensions into each braid. They leave out a row of your own hair on the bottom, sides and top incase you chose to wear your hair up. That way extensions aren't visible.

On top of paying to have the extensions put in I also had to purchase the human hair. I had a choice of either going to a beauty shop to buy a bag of hair which is synthetically created or having the lady at the salon handmake the hair to be used for my extensions. I chose the handmade hair as it allowed for a more natural look. The cost of four rows of handmade human hair was $125. But she gave me a 15% discount for being a first time customer.

So far I've had these extensions for three weeks. During that time I went away on vacation for two weeks. I really love them. At first I didn't but after a few days I fell in love with them. I'm having them removed next week though.

With weaved extensions you can keep them in for three months. Once they are in you can brush them like normal hair, wash them, curl them, color them, etc. Pretty much everything you can do with normal hair you can do with these weaved in extensions.

Awwww Anya, that's terrible!! I sooo hate bad haircuts......

I permed my hair once myself and it turned out like Puddles experience but it stayed long enuf to have it straightened....

That sucks, Anya, not to have chosen short hair and gotten it, but if it's a good haircut, like you say, and your hair is healthy, why not just do your best to make the most of it? Why not get some new dangly earrings, a new lipstick, and enjoy the feel of the air on your neck? Though I do know, from personal experience, that short hair can be hard to deal with, unless you're one of those women who's willing to spend a lot of time and a lot of goo making it behave (or one of those rare ones who actually has hair that behaves on its own).

I got a couple of shorter-than-I-wanted haircuts when I was younger, but that doesn't happen anymore.

I had a friend that went to walmart and got hers cut.....it looked like they butchered it!I could have done a better job than that and i cant even cut hair. Sorry anya, get ur bf to go kick their ass. I am lucky, i have a good hair stylist.....well once i went to Fantastic Sams and the girl just sucked at cutting hair....i had to go home and fix it myself because my bangs looked like she stuck a bowl over my head and cut.....totally awful.

The place I ended up going to is a little over an hour away in Sarasota. This lady has been doing extensions for over 25 years. But has been at that same location for over 17 years. Her name is Cynthia.

For a long drive out it was well worth it!
Here is her website with information and her contact info. You have to call her to set up a consultation. She works by appointment only.

I really only got them because I was going away on vacation. Around here I could care less who sees my bad hair these days. I had already scheduled an appt. to have them removed. I'll miss getting out of the shower or bath and just letting my hair dry without having to put anything in to tame it.

Im very sorry dear.

Might I make a suggestion about the extensions thing? Go to a place that primarily caters to women of color. Caucasion women know so little when it come to "false hair" and they get raped coming and going. I learned the little bit that I do know about false hair from my dancing days. I got a false ponytail that was JUST STUNNING - no one could tell it was fake, not even my own kids. It was a ponytail that practically reached my rear and had a nice strong wave to it. I paid $65.00 for it and thought it was a steal. All the girls at work were like, "GUUUUUUUUUURL THEY SAW YOU COMING!"... LOL

Anyways - feel you about the bad hair. A woman's hair is her crowning glory and regardless of whether it was a bad perm or dye job or shit cut if it isn't EXACTLY WHAY YOU ASKED FOR it makes you mad crazy.

If the cut is good (as you say it is) get over the fact that you are pissed and enjoy the style. (I know, I know it isn't what you asked for, but it has been cut so it is water under the bridge.) Get cute bandanas and hats, earrings whatever and just take a deep breath and realize that you are amazingly hot..... even if you were bald. Try and play w/diff products, etc until the style becomes "yours".

When life hands you lemons, just laugh and make lemonaide baby. ;)

PS - if it will make you feel better I'll loan you my birthday gift to wear. Black pearl and diamond earrings set in platinum.... but I have to keep the necklace to m'self as the diamond is just waaaaaaaaaaay too sparkly... An old broad like m'self needs all the help she can get! You are very young and spunky, bright, self-confident and beautiful inside and out... Dont let someone else EVER rain on your parade.

Anya.. i'm sorry gf.
maybe it won't be that bad in a week or two when it grows out of that initial REALLY short length.
go buy yourself some new makeup and play up your pretty features.

That's so true.
My girlfriend in college (fair skinned red head) would go up to Harlem (early 90's - pre hip time for white people to call Harlem home) to have her hair extensions done.

Well that was 8 weeks ago and I've gotten about 1.25" back now. Looking better for sure. Also I've gotten over that inital shock and it doesnt look just insanely short anymore. My hair is naturally wavy so I've been straightening it to maximize the length I do have. By my bf's birthday (9/21) it'll be looking the way I intended it to look when I had it cut, which was more or less 6" layers.

What I regret most is that I tipped that dopey broad. arrrrgh!

Yea they are straight hair extensions. Not the braids you'd get say if you went on vacation to Jamaica. Ofcourse if you don't naturally have straight hair they won't put straight extensions in. But your hair is free flowing if that's what you mean.

I am the same way! Why on earth do I feel the need to tip someone that just gave me CRAPPY service?!

OOOH people who give bad haircuts should die!!!

I got a haircut a few weeks ago, went to the cheap salon since I have long hair that I just needed trimmed very badly (not hard to do) and I'm flat out broke at the moment. This fat lady who was cutting my hair wouldn't shut up and stop talking about how she's on Trimspa and it's making her sweaty but at least she hasn't had to eat all day because it makes her not hungry (it was hard not to laugh my ass off at that comment), about how her boyfriend is a deadbeat and won't get a job so she supports him, etc. At one point I was like "would you just shut the hell up and cut my hair?" At least she didn't mess it up.

They are very straight and the hair is very soft. Not braided at all and you cannot even tell they are extensions. I have some friends that paid $350 and one that paid $600 and they feel like crap....Shhh.. I didnt say that but you get what you pay for. Mine hold up very well. If my stylist moved I would go to where ever she was to have them done. That good. I straight iron them....curl...dye and all....and they still hold up very nicely. Good luck if you get them!! :rainbow:

Have you looked at wigs? They're not too bad to wear and good ones don't look fake at all. I had 2 when I lost my hair, one was thicker for when I went to work or out, the other was thinner and lighter (cooler) for when I was home or just running errands and at the gym. It might help your hair to grow faster too, the lady at the place I got mine said since the wigs keep the heat in your hair grows faster. Plus you can really baby your new hair as it comes in.
