Dang girl...

My cousin was recently hit by a mail truck while riding.

Be careful out there.

i was on my bike yesterday on a curvy road and i am slowing down from like 100 to set up for one of my fav turns and i see a cyclist deciding to take the turn right in the middle of the road, not only could i barely stop i had to go around this turn at 15 mph instead of 75. i wanted to drop kick him off his bike when i passed him.

so you were speeding going 100 and risking not just your life but others on the road and its the cyclists fault? wow.

in FL you get caught going 100mph and your ass goes to jail end of story. in virginia you go more then 20mph over the speed limit and you are looking at a $1000 fine.

dont be stupid out there. i did some dumb shit too when i was younger. luckily the cop gave me a break or else I would of spent the night in jail.

not worth it. most cops wont cut you a break if they catch you going over 100.. its reckless driving

I'm sorry to hear about your cousin. Did she have any broken bones? I try to becareful as much as I can but if it's meant to happen is gonna happen. Can't live life in fear.

Did you signal or yell?
75 is pretty fast when turning

I've had some respectable biffs when I've been mountain biking. I always hated riding on the road. On the hill if I'd eat shit it's my fault. I have no control over some mormon mom talking on her cell with 5 screaming kids in the back of her suburban not looking out for cyclists.

Sorry P.

LOL, I'm not gonna even attempt a ride outside.
It's gonna be Equinox Precor action for cardio for me.
You grew up there. You developed the necessary spider-sense for the terrain. I would be a speedbump.

I like to mentally just relax or kinda invigorate my sense of purpose. American Gladiator, obstacle courses is not my thing. So yeah, this is a reminder to me, that cardio is gonna be an indoor thing.

lol

Why don't you get like a mountain bike?

No broken bones, just a little scratch on my hand and knee. It all happened so fast...

Because trikes are a lot more stable and have a cute basket so I can take it shopping, etc without relying on someone giving me a ride, also I'm getting it cheap because it's a classic Miami sun deluxe adult trike that I'm gonna restore :supercool cuz I need a Robbie :worried:

i was super excited i was totally thinking we were gonna see a monkey shot

bummer :(

oh glad your all right :p

you didnt read what i wrote man.. all you did was see i was speeding and decided to lecture me. if i was going the posted speed limit of 55 it still would have been insane for him to do what he did. he's riding his bike in the middle of the lane going 15mph in a 55 mph speed zone on a road with many blind turns. luckily this turn had a straight before the turn so i could see him ahead. if i would have come off another turn i might have hit him regardless of speed.

100mph is hardly fast on a 1000cc sport bike. it does 120mph in 2nd gear. at 100mph i could stop twice as fast as a car going the 55 mph speed limit. actually 100-0 takes just over 3 seconds on my bike.

also someone in a car texting or not paying attention would have deff smacked him. people dont expect bikers to just be chilling in the middle of the road.

signal what? i was in my lane continuing going in my lane. instead of him being on the shoulder he was just in the middle. my bike is louder then my yell so that wouldnt have done anything.

on sweeping back roads 75 is pretty much basic cruising speed on a sport bike.

Driving through the park by the river today, there was the usual army of cyclists out there. On this road not only are there designated bike lanes on both sides of the road, but also a separate bicycle path that weaves around parallel to the road. And yet people still ride their bikes down the middle of the road and won't yield for cars.

Cyclists on the road should be verboten tbh.

I agree with this completely. I'm not a cyclist, so I don't have any vested interest, but I don't get why they can't use sidewalks. You have three groups: cars/motor vehicles, bicycles, and walkers/pedestrians. If you have to group two of the three together, what is the logical, safest, and most effecient choice?

It seems to me that cyclists endanger lives. Maybe one of you pro-cyclers can give a counter to my argument.

Things betta?
Thing is like in NYC, I dunno... again I don't have an answer. However, in New York, Cyclists are deemed very annoying, it appears to Thands. I would have to back her up, on 2 occasions we got ran over by cyclists on the sidewalk. First time, the dude was chinese and apologetic, the next time dude gave a half ass apology, and yeah, I feel you on that. I think it may be better for them to be on the sidewalks, but for pedestrians, it's the worst.

Again NYC is the most congested city in America that I'm gonna live in for a period of my life, and I've been spoiled that before the streets and sidewalks had room... however, I'm not sure what is better.

Philosophically, it's a vehicle, however it's not keeping up with the speed of traffic, so the question is what is more important, the form/content of the vehicle, or the capacity/speed in determining where it belongs?

Okay, I really don't think my argument holds up for big cities anywhere in the world. I can see the logic/necessity there.

I suppose, given the above, it's credited to enforce universally, rather than by more abstract metrics (size, population, congestion, &c.)

Hmm... can't think of further argument against...

One time in NY I stepped out into the crosswalk as soon as the light changed, and was immediately run over by a bicyclist. He screamed "Why don't you look where you're fucking going, look what you did to my bike", while I was bleeding from the heel and the back of my shoe was torn off. "It's a one-way fucking street and I did look, it's not my fault you were going the wrong way." "Fuck you!" "Asshole."

I disagree with Samoth, bicycles are vehicles and belong on the street. They'd be a menace to pedestrians on the sidewalk. But two-wheelers need to get over their sense of entitlement and yield to motorized traffic as soon as is reasonably possible. Instead, most of them are so concerned with conserving momentum that they won't give anyone a break.

I tend to agree.
They are forced to yield to vehicles more than pedestrians, due to that whole 'being killed thing'.
Seriously, though, it's just easier for pedestrians. It sux to walk and have peeps flying by U, and you having to keep turning around.

i used to feel bad for the bikers i treated like shit while i drove, but then a la mr db, i found that when i walk i put up with the same bs from bikers. they fly right at me, glare at me like in american history x, and are like, "on foot, you're the ngr"

you and Phoenix has similar dainty, yet full leg structures

they are cute, like little barbie legs

holy shit! Is it the weekend already??????????1!!1@

Why? Why can't we just share a road like what's the big deal?

I dunno about 'merka, but in the UK virtually every single cyclist that goes on the roads has little to no road sense, whether it's lack of reflective gear on pitch black nights (oddly enough a regular sight) / broken reflectors, treat pedestrians like untermensch, fly right by cars or swerving all over the lane at 10miles an hour.

Accidents between motorists & cyclists favour the latter by default despite stuff like the above.

Bor that's right up there on the creepiness factor as that scene from the movie Braveheart where the old English soldier sighs refectively to Wallace's wife "Ooohhh you remind me of my daughter back home" before... you know... :worried:

k i can counter it easily.

1. in the USA bicycles have as much right to the road as vehicles.
2. a decent bicyclist on a decent bicycle can go easily 25mph which is almost as fast as cars go and way way way faster then what people walk so it would be dangerous to be on the sidewalk
3. sidewalks are for walkers.. thats why its called a sideWALK

so all in all for everyones safety bicycles are to be on the road with cars going in the same direction. and cars are supposed to give 3 feet distance

not sure how you expect me to bicycle 25mph to train for a triathlon on a sidwalk and dodge walkers. think about it.

if everyone followed the rules then there wouldn't be any problems. cars give bicyclists 3 feet of space, bicyclists stay off the sidewalk away from walkers. everyone is happy.

That is a misconception - far more people go over on a 3 wheeler than a 2 wheeler. Go either 2 or 4 say no to 3.

That would make sense, but then why do we park in the DRIVEway, and drive on the PARKway?

That's right..You get a ticket here if you get caught riding on the sidewalk. Bikers have to be on the road or trails. No doubt, there are some crazy cyclists out there-not denying it. But, some pedestrians need directions on how to walk on a trail.

so yesterday i pull up to a light and wouldn't you know it, there was lance armstrong in front of me. full road bike and spandex unitard. light changes and dude proceeds to take up the entire lane, and due to oncoming traffic in the other lane i am unable to pass him. so i proceed to drive 20mph for close to a mile, waiting for an opportunity to get around him. mind you this whole time he knew there was traffic behind him, yet did not even try to pull to the side. this is why people hate cyclists.

so yet again i have an experience with another biker today. pretty much the same as redshirts. i really couldnt explain it either. i was on a 4 lane road. pretty good amount of traffic. nice as shoulder on the road too. the biker is on the shoulder, approaching a light and i am coming up behind him. light turns yellow, dude goes fromt the shoulder into the middle of the lane where i am. so we are sitting at the red light and im thinking wtf is this dude doing does he feel cool being in the middle. so i assume hes gonna pedal to the right again when it goes green.. nope. he stays in the middle of the lane and it took me about a half mile to get a break so i could pass him in the left lane. he got up to like 19mph i think. it was a 45 mph zone. i wanted to sidekick him off his bike when i passed him.

wtf are these dudes doing i dont understand. this road had an amazing shoulder. yo could go two bikes wide on it.

honking scares the fuck out of them and a lot of times they'll swerve and crash

All you had to do is announce yourself "coming through or approaching left/right". He has to let you pass, it's road etiquette.

damn bro if he hit me and said that I would be tempted to smash his teeth out.

on a side note I fell of my bike (pushbike) the other day.... well I didnt really fall off its hard to explain basically I fell onto my bike and I bent the wheel :( Which meant I had to turn round and walk home and couldnt go to the gym. Got home raging

im on a crotch rocket in traffic. if i screamed at the top of my lungs he wouldnt hear me.

i think i should have honked but he knew damn well i was there. and motorcycle horns suck.

I reached 38 mph on a mtn bike with street tires on a flat road. (One of those stupid check your speed signs clocked me)

Cyclists are held to the same standard legally as people in motor vehicles. You can get a speeding ticket on a bike, you can get a DUI on a bike. Stay on the fucking road but know your place. Just because cyclists do have the right of way doesn't mean they own the road.

Can you get a ticket for obstructing traffic?

i know someone that was riding their bike in downtown toronto when the owner of a parked suv decided to blindly swing their door open. it knocked out almost all of the cyclists front teeth and they sustained some broken facial bones, resulting in multiple reconstructive surgeries. they were cycling for the work commute, not for recreation.

kinda scary.

After the show the other night I was standing at the end of the bar chatting with one of the security guys, and made some asshole comment like "I didn't like hair metal 30 years ago, and it hasn't gotten any better since then." Then I looked up and saw the singer standing at the bar only a few feet away. He had to have heard me.

so, i didn't read the whole thread but...

we have awesome bike trails everywhere around here .. everywhere!
rails to trails...theyre awesome

yet...these fuckfaces are insistent on riding on the road where theyre damn near waffled by bad drivers daily...
to this I say...darwinism

this doesn't apply to princessa tho...cuz I have an idea what shes up against for riding

Bike trails are great for kids and families. The cyclists that you see on the streets are a bit more serious riders. Like I rode from NYC to CT, aprox 135miles, it's hard to find bike lanes all the way up there. So, we are forced to ride On the street with traffic. It's a gamble and pretty scary, but, it's sooo much fun.

Dude - you are getting hard core. That is a long ride. Did you do that in one day?

ya, except our rails to trails is linking boston to new haven...pretty serious actually

That's fvcking hardcore princesa. What are your thoughts on the bicycle laws they will now be enforcing in Manhattan?
