Gym chains

I personally have issues with Bally's and Cardinal Fitness.

Anyone have any gripes about Planet Fitness? I'm trying to replace CF after them pissing me off and PF is my most convenient replacement option.

I'm stuck at cardinal for now. I may go back to teh gym I used to go to before there. But work was slow for a while and I had to opt out for a while

Doesn't bother me. I go to the gym for my body. I couldn't are less if some juvenile idiot wants to sound a tornado siren at someone else.

My option is planet fitness, or nothing. I will not give cardinal another cent and 80% of Bally's equipment is broken.

PF's dumbbells only go up to 75-80 lbs. Fucking laughable. Any limp dick worth his weight will be able to bench more than that after a few months of training.

See if there's a World Gym near you. It's a pretty no frills, laid back place. Not sure if they let you use chalk or not, if that's your sort of thing. DBs go up to 150 lbs here. Seems to be some serious lifters at the one here.

You should definitely sign a three year contract with planet fitness. Think of it as an investment.

Anytime fitness is similar to PF. It's pussy shit. Not as bad as PF, but still bad. Sounds like you're either going to have to deal with it, buy your own weights, or stop lifting and just start taking jogs in the morning like a marathon fgt.

lol@troll

Both AF and PF are pussy gyms that cater to overweight house wIves.

If you're serious about getting bigger, stronger, leaner, more athletic, etc you'll seek out a real gym. Or at least a chain gym that isn't gay.

.

holy fuck that planet fitness gym is insane why would anyone work out there?

"The Lunk Alarm is sounded when patrons "grunt, drop their weights, do unapproved "Bodybuilding", deadlifting, or Olympic lifts, overexerts him/herself (EG CrossFit or P90x type circuit workouts), or judges others."

I saw a video about it once and there is a restriction on the size of water bottle you are allowed and tank tops were frowned upon/not allowed.

wtf lol so glad they dont have shit like that over here

No shit, right?

I'd do body weight and KB work before wasting my time on that shit.

lol forgot about noodle keg, yea they would fit in at AF/PF perfectly

Ballys with 80% broken shit is still way better than PF or AF any day of the week.

I would travel 20 mins to a decent gym any day. I take a 20-25min bus ride then walk another 15min to get to the gym.

By the time I spent an extra hour day in traffic I'd basically sleep work exercise sleep and that would be my life...and it's more like 20 miles so going to the gym after work would be a 35 mike drive in rush hour then another 20 to go home after. I'd last about a week before it wore me out

Well blah. 2 of the 3 don't exist, but there is another a little closer... about 76 blocks north of me. Have am email in to them now

Ouch 40 a month With 10$ now on the site, or 34$ a month with 60$ now via my company "15%" discount. So they offer s fake discount to my company by charging 50$ more

Too bad all but one Bally's here closed. I paid 19.95 a month for nationwide unlimited access

My gym has full sets of bands, but it's BYO chains. Making a set of chains should run under $50 from the hardware store. Most gyms will let you keep them there.

You can always get some from EFS. Although their stuff runs at a premium, they are the highest quality gym supplies available anywhere.

Well the golds guy emailed me back and made a tempting offer, one that makes me think the walls are falling down at the gym and they are hard up for income... so haha I'm going to try to get up there this week, or weekend and ask for a walk through before I decide... even if I only hit the gym Saturdays and Sundays then stick to my kettlebells, weight vest, and body weight around the house during the week it'd be worth it at the price they are offering, plus it'd be nice to have sauna access.

the golds by me is doing $200 per year deals. its a little ran down but its under new management and they are trying to fix it up and start hosting b-ball tourneys there again as well as other things to bring people back. i may just sign up for the hell of it to change the atmosphere time to time.

weight vest

What weight, brand, and how much did it cost?

I have a pretty cheap 50lb one that I got for $100 years ago, but EFS has some nice 70-80lb vests in the $300-400 range that I would really like to get.

Not many people use these, but I find them underappreciated, especially for cardio-poor weightlifters or those who don't/can't do high impact cardio.

Ultimate Weight Vests for fitness training. purchased it 2/24/06 for 289.95 shipped. 75lb.

I've heard all the horror stories about PF and all their rules and alarm, however, I actually joined PF because literally there wasnt much else around and it's close, true dumbbells get up only to like 85-95 but the rules are BS, dudes work out in like denim shorts, people walk around with gallon water bottles, everyone fucking grunts and drops weights, I've only seen the lunk alarm go off ONCE and im all fairness two dudes were shoving each other/picking a fight so it was called for.... for $20 a month I can always take a guest, get 50% discount on cooler drinks, free unlimited massage chair use and free unlimited tanning bed use, good enough for me, yes there's a bunch of pussies there, I just chose not to be one and do my workouts...

Jesus fucking christ, you sound like a chick trying to pick out a pair of shoes.

Who me? Well one gym has filed bankruptcy, lost 2 of the 3 locations here in town, and the vast majority of their equipment is in questionable at best safety condition...

Another sent me to collections 1 business day after my debit card was declined on my automatic bill... the debit card # had been skimmed and used to purchase things without my consent, I had just canceled it a few days before, and hadn't received a new one from the bank yet so couldn't give them the new #... they sent me to collections less than 24 hours after my auto-bill happened, I got them to remove the collection and told them they will NEVER have me as a customer again. They wanted the 20 something bucks plus 50 something insufficient funds... because my card was declined as STOLEN.

Then I asked about planet fitness, it has a douchebag klaxon and flashing light people can push if they don't care for you... pass

Then the other one is nearly 80 blocks away... that's not being indifferent about a pair of shoes, that's trying to find a gym that's going to offer me the best situation out of the available pool.

Um, exactly what "equipment" do you need? Is the squat bar taped together or something?

With that one, the more important thing is... Bally's is going out of business, and I can see myself paying, then them closing shop a month or two down the road, with no notice. The only one left open has always been the one that was neglected and run down at that... sadly also the busiest one.

I have heard in the past 24 hours from several people that go to the planet fitness near my work, and none of them have ever heard the klaxon or seen the light... so I'm trying to hear from more people about this local one and I might just end up there, as while Gold's would be nice for the pool and sauna... PF is half a mile from work, and Gold's is 80 blocks north of my house in a very congested area... so I can see myself getting fed up with the commute after work in the first week at Gold's

For the Bally's thing, they're a corporation, albeit private. You sign a contract. Verify a closure clause in the contract. It's not that hard. They're not going to attempt litigatation over a $100 issue that they're liable for on paper.

I don't know what a klaxon is. Pools and saunas are for fitness centers. You said gym. Big difference. If you want a fitness center, just go to curves. If you want a gym you need a rack, a bench, a few bars, and some plates. For high-tech, maybe a pully system. I've never seen a gym without all of these.

Do you have a basement? If so, that's the easiest answer.

Well Lunk Alarm heaven is getting a green light from over a dozen people I know that go there, none of them ever having seen anyone activate the lunk alarm so I'm going to stock up my gym bag and head over there Monday after work. Thanks for the input everyone.
