Steroids are becoming so "popular" in the media these days that pretty much EVERYBODY is familiar with them now. Average people who don't even work out understand what they do and how they work.
Doesn't the FBI, DEA, and the media realize that all they are doing is advertising steroids and how great they are? lol
I think we are about to see a HUGE increase in steroid use now by kids, teens, adults, hell even old folks.
Its pretty ridiculous. I see guys walking around my gym wearing Bodybuilding.com t-shirts! lol Basically advertising that they use gear. And these aren't huge bodybuilders either, just regular guys/gals.
Do I have a problem with this? Well, not really. But I think the days of average people being mystified by the look of people like "us" is gone. Its no secret anymore. Pretty much anyone can tell now that if someone has above average muscles and vascularity, they are on gear.
Your thoughts...
As with most media coverage, positive or negative, it's all down to marketing and the generation of profit. The media is merely a corporate and political 'tool of illusion'. We are entering the era of human enhancement and the medical field is leading this. They can't go back and say that anabolic androgenic steroids actually don't cause the damage they have been portrayed to, instead pharmaceutical companies are developing new peptides and different testosterone esters for use in HRT as 'longevity and youth enhancers'. Even AAS like Anavar (oxandrolone), now called Oxandrin are being re-patented and promoted for many illnesses that result in catabolic states.
Obviously, like most pharmaceuticals, doctors will prescribe these drugs for 'off-label' uses. Pharmaceutical companies are in the 'game' for profit and generally not concerned about much else, as long as their products sell.
'Media marketing' is best done using high profile folk. Take Sylvester Stallone's human growth hormone - somatropin - bust in Australia for instance. Now honestly, the odds of ole Sylvester being suspected of importing 'banned substances' into Australia would be extremely low....then to have his bags searched and HGH found in his possession is even lower. It was a planned hoax to begin with in order to associate our 'Rocky' hero with the current elixir of youth, synthetic Human Growth Hormone. Imagine what that is doing for sales of HGH!? Included in this fantastic story is that he also had vials of testosterone in his possession.
Here's the ABC News story just for a laugh.
"Actor Sylvester Stallone pleaded guilty Tuesday to bringing vials of restricted muscle-building hormones into Australia and faces sentencing next week.
Lawyers for the 60-year-old star of the "Rocky" and "Rambo" movies entered the guilty pleas on behalf of the actor, who did not appear before Sydney's Downing Center Local Court.
"I made a terrible mistake, not because I was attempting to deceive anyone but I was simply ignorant to your official rules," Stallone said in a letter to Sydney's Local Court. "I feel terrible that my breach of the rules has set a poor example to members of the public, whose opinion I cherish dearly."
Stallone was accused of bringing banned substances into Australia after a customs search of his luggage during a Feb. 16 visit to Sydney revealed 48 vials of the human growth hormone product, Jintropin.
Three days later, Stallone threw four vials of the male hormone testosterone from his Sydney hotel room when customs officials arrived to search it, prosecutor David Agius told the court.
Human growth hormone, a naturally occurring substance that can be replicated synthetically and is used to build muscle mass, is considered a performance enhancing drug in Australia and it cannot be imported without a permit from the national drug regulator, the Therapeutic Goods Administration.
The maximum penalty for bringing Jintropin into Australia illegally is a fine of $91,500 and five years in prison, but Stallone faces a maximum penalty of just $18,000 on each of the two charges because the matter is being heard by a local, not federal, court.
Deputy Chief Magistrate Paul Cloran said Stallone would be sentenced on Monday next week.
Stallone's lawyer Phillip Boulten said the actor should be spared a criminal conviction, saying Stallone took the hormones for medical reasons that he did not specify." By MERAIAH FOLEY Associated Press Writer

To top off the 'seriousness' of his 'crime', as we see in the ABC article, he didn't even appear in court. What a joke.
He isn't the only high profile person to be 'busted' using chemical enhancement for whatever purpose. A few seconds thought will bring a few celebrities, sportsmen and women to mind.
If this isn't an advert for the HRT and the booming Anti Aging industry, then logic has no place here.
Anyway, expect to see the release of new and effective androgenic anabolic steroids and growth peptides, aswell as the 'legitimate' reintroduction of some of our old favourites over the next decade.
It's all just a game, so lets play it!
