Going to see Star Trek.

i dont care much for trek either but i saw it yesterday and it was pretty sweet.

I'm gonna try to catch it at the Imax theater on Monday.

I can't wait -- middle-aged guy going to a Star Trek movie, alone, in the middle of the day, now there's an image for you.

I plan on hitting up the Monday matinee...at least you aren't going in costume, or are you? :worried:

I will go see this movie when I decide to swear off women

funny thing, there were about a dozen people dressed up in my theater. all fat, middle aged men - shocker, yet on the imax line which was deep for a show starting 3 hours later, it was a veritible masquerade of nerds dressed to the nines arguing about star trek lore.

i definately felt out of my element.

there was 1 pay for play dude in the crowd. had this hot ass enhanced asian dressed like she was perusing the room for lap dances with this old, fat, bald white dude. definately ordered her online.

viewed it last night...first time i have been inside a movie theatre in over a year.

chris pine is a worthy successor (precursor? see the movie and u will understand my question) to william shatner in the james t. kirk role.

i loved some of the sly, subtle references to the past movies and tv show plots.

the actor who portrayed dr. "bones" mccoy nailed the character. (always wondered how that character got the nickname of "bones"...now i know.)

thoroughly enjoyed it....might even go see it again to see if/what i missed last night.

Karl Urban.

Matt Damon taught him the value of an airbag in The Bourne Supremacy.

He was also the king's son in The Two Towers and Return of the King.

I liked it and definately played homage to the originals w/o trying to be all new and different. Lots of backstory scenes we've never seen b4. My friend created the opening title which was cool to watch :)

I might go check it out, thanks for the review.

God, I'm such a dork, can't believe Java posted that movie. I have the Director's Cut of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.

Trek Nerds: How much of that backstory is from the original series, and how much of it was created for the film? I'm a lucas fanboy so obviouslhy not up to trek stuff.

I thought the Enterprise episodes dealing with Dr. Soong and the augments were interesting.

Space Seed was one of my favorite Star Trek episodes...

Here is a little Star Trek influence. Jim Carrey's character in this flick does a spoof of the scene from the original Star Trek TV series when Spock and Capt. Kirk fight.

decent. nothing incredible like ive been told.

and I'll bet you in a couple days you finally admit to yourself it wasn't even decent. It's amazing, no other place in this world can shine up a turd like we can. That movie apparently did real fucking well and I knew from the very moment I saw Harold from 'harold and kumar' in a hollywood stunt fight on the outer hull of a starship, that it was going to huckle down the gullet the biggest, fattest and greasiest horse cock. I'm assuming "harold" was sulu, am I right? Good god........and simon pegg as scottie? are you fucking kidding me? Tell me at least that spock was "alright".........:redhot:

I liked Shawn of the dead...:)

how hot was the main augment girl? I looked her up, apparently she's on "the unit" now, but she's blond.......and it doesn't really work for her.

really? I wanted to destroy my television and swear off all modern industrial influence in my life for good. When I calmed down I settled on never watching another simon pegg catastrophe ever again. honestly I wanted to throw a flop at the tv I was so mad at myself for getting that POS on pay per view.

It had some funny references to dawn of the dead... I felt it was a good parody....with some British humor. :)

Monty Python, good stuff.

Extras > Monty Python

And LOL at red getting sassy again.

Just joshin ya bor. But seriously, Extras is hilarious. Ricky Gervais is the closest thing we have today to a comedic genius.

ok I googled it, is that a show on HBO? I just saw a clip of it that actually did have my falling out......when he tried to ask that girl out and the seltzer bottle blew up on him and he put his mouth on it.....dear god. :lmao:

Yeah that's it. Gervais is big on not overstating his welcome, so he stopped making it after two seasons (like The Office).

Do yourself a favor and YouTube the clip with Patrick Stewart.

Also the entire episode with Daniel Radcliffe is awesome.

Come to think of it, there are literally NO unfunny episodes. Stephen Merchant (his writing partner) plays his agent and is fucking hilarious.

Saw the Trek movie this afternoon. Not sure how I feel about the revisionist history aspects, but it was a fun ride with lots of carefully-placed references to the TV show and the movie franchise.

I went for the "IMax Experience", my first time. Even though I was back about 1/3 of the way, I thought I was too close to the screen, and sometimes wasn't able to take in all the action at once. In the future I'll know to aim for mid-theater. The projectionist had trouble with dust specks in the projector throughout the film, sometimes the specks looked like space debris floating across the image. At the 1:00 PM showing on a Monday afternoon, most of the customers looked a whole lot like me -- graying, slightly overweight middle-aged white men. But this was the first time in years I've gone to a theater and didn't have to endure any obese loud-talking bitches.

That was pretty fucking funny...

Its the little things that get me. Like how he automatically assumes hes seen him in X-Men.

Another example would be (in a later episode) how Ian McKellen refers to himself as "Sir Ian."

"What, they turned lesbian?"

"Yeah because they've been in the camp for so long."

Even though I'm not a Trekie *cough*, I'm still more Trekie than anyone else in this thread... and I have had like no interest in seeing this movie. It's all about "the franchise" now, and not the characters or Roddenberry's vision. Yeah, the original ST cast may be dying, but Stewart and Frakes and Spiner are all still perfectly capable of doing great movies. It's like they took a survey of what the average American likes ITO fancy effects and explosions, then got some young, hip modern cast that average people will "relate" to or some shit.

... reminds me of when DC started releasing a #0 for every single fucking comic they've made for the last 75 years just to increase sales.

1) All about the benjamins yo.

2) Kids growing up today are not watching 60's star trek episodes. And will not care about some star trek crap when older. So it's a way of introducing them to star trek like previous generations have seen. (kinda like talking about v, dune, willow, blade runner, and 16 y/o kids giving you a "what are you talking about old man?" look).

I bet half the people here have never watched a buck rogers episode in their lives!

r

I know you've got a starfleet uniform buried somewhere in your closet..:lmao:

And yeah, I hate "trendy" casts. God I just hate "trendiness"........:redhot:

say what? I answered the "Measure of a Man" episode question of the Next Generation within minutes. I earned my nerd cred...I may not be able to recite seasons and episodes verbatim but I grew up watching syndicated episodes of the original. I can point out flaws in the episodes and don't get me started on how the universe was disrupted by the writers when dealing with the Romulans after "The Balance of Terror."

After the "Balance of Terror" episode they have been playing fast and loose with the Romulans. In the episode they talk about the war with the Romulans being waged with sublight ships...completely impractical. Even in the episode they still didn't have warp drive. Yet, by the next generation their technology had surpassed the Federation?

war with the romulans "pre warp"??? you're kidding right? It would take 1000 years just to get to the neutral zone.......

Okay, fine. I'll concede to your Trekieness WRT TOS. I maintain my Trekieness WRT TNG. I know little of TOS. We can flip over Voyager and DS9.

And, of course, it goes without saying: Enterprise sucked.

It all went downhill after Generations.

It all went downhill after Generations.

Calmly we walk through this April's day,
Metropolitan poetry here and there,
In the park sit pauper and rentier,
The screaming children, the motor-car
Fugitive about us, running away,
Between the worker and the millionaire
Number provides all distances,
It is Nineteen Thirty-Seven now,
Many great dears are taken away,
What will become of you and me
(This is the school in which we learn...)
Besides the photo and the memory?
(...that time is the fire in which we burn.)

(This is the school in which we learn...)
What is the self amid this blaze?
What am I now that I was then
Which I shall suffer and act again,
The theodicy I wrote in my high school days
Restored all life from infancy,
The children shouting are bright as they run
(This is the school in which they learn...)
Ravished entirely in their passing play!
(...that time is the fire in which they burn.)

Avid its rush, that reeling blaze!
Where is my father and Eleanor?
Not where are they now, dead seven years,
But what they were then?
No more? No more?
From Nineteen-Fourteen to the present day,
Bert Spira and Rhoda consume, consume
Not where they are now (where are they now?)
But what they were then, both beautiful;

Each minute bursts in the burning room,
The great globe reels in the solar fire,
Spinning the trivial and unique away.
(How all things flash! How all things flare!)
What am I now that I was then?
May memory restore again and again
The smallest color of the smallest day:
Time is the school in which we learn,
Time is the fire in which we burn.

I watched many of the original episodes as a kid. Saw lots of TNG as well (I won't say every single episode because I never made it a point to do so). Stewart was great imo. DS9 was good. Voyager, less so...never got into it Enterprise? Meh. If I want to see Scott Bakula, I'll hit up some Quantum Leap, which I also saw a lot of...and enjoyed.

I never liked DS9, so when Voyager came out I barely gave it notice. I think I watched one episode and concluded that Janeway was no picard. Now however, after catching the full run on spike........I have to say that voyager ended up being the better show than even TNG. Yes, Picard is still the best captain and Data is still the best character in Star Trek history...... but overall voyager was a better show and captain janeway really grows on you the more you watch. And of course seven was the most ridiculously hot female.....lol

you're allowing the greatness of picard to cloud your judgement. Voyage had a much more cohesive story line. THe Delta quadrant was just a more interesting place I guess.

Frakes alone >>> the entire crew of Voyager!!!

ST trivia: the Weseley character was originally written to be played by a female. (This might explain a few things... :D)

:cow:

chakotay>ryker.........like seriosly. Ryker was a giant goof. However, Worf>tuvok. And Seven>than all star trek characters of all time.

:cow:

oh please, chakotay would have to patiently wait to kick his ass till Ryker finished hucking down the twinkies. Chakotay was a warrior, Ryker was a starfleet pussy. He was twice Picards size yet it was Picard holding his own against Klingons in hand to hand combat. Picard was the D to the O to the double G.........Ryker was his cuttie, no more.

Oh hell fucking no.

Frakes was a pure genius.

Riker would kick Chakotay's fairy-animal-guide-cuddling pansey ass.

HTH

:cow:

i had always wondered how dr. "bones" mccoy got his nickname...now i know. ;)

Riker is far more prestigious, better looking, tougher, more pimp, and moreover highly desired by Star Fleet. Let me know when (if) Chakotay makes even a captain position. He had a fun adventure through some unknown areas, but his experience is far more limited than Riker's. Chakotay will never captain the Federation flagship; he'll be luckey to "command" the mess hall. His record wouldn't even permit him to sit on his ass at Starfleet Command.

:cow:

those "fun adventures" ended up with the destruction of the borg.......for being part of that Chakotay makes admiral at the very least and Janeway becomes, well, whatever they would call the "president" of starfleet. Ryker could bring chakotay his coffee, so it's not a total wash for the old boy. All the voyager crew could practically write their own paychecks in starfleet. Plus Seven is multitudes>than troi, and who's hitting that again??......................uh yeah, Chakotay!! I mean just this fact alone makes chakotay>than ryker. Not that I wouldn't pound Marina Sirtis though........I mean yeah, I so would. But Seven was just ridiculous.......:p

I love this thread! All the virgins of EF have exposed themselves!

Mods, can you make a note of all the trekkies on this thread. So we can beat them up after school?

r

meet me at the big tree, you're getting a stone cold stunner from a dude in a starfleet uniform. And when you wake up you'll be treated to a crippler cross face..........this trekkie does not play games....:supercool:nerd:

Ha! Like you could ever pose a challenge to a trained sith warrior. Puleeze.

I have to agree with Rnch, always loved Kirk as a captain and admiral. I was really resistant to TNG but Picard, Riker, and Data eventually grow on you. Despised DS9, couldn't get into Voyager. Never watched much Enterprise, Scott Bakula was a BAD CHOICE. He completely shut me off to the show.

Chakotay was the subject of the movie "Eating Raoul". Getting killed and eaten by Paul Martel and his wife is a lot to overcome, no wonder he got a tattoo on his face.

As far as trekkie cred goes, how many of you saw every episode when they were originally broadcast Thursday nights on NBC, 1966-1969? C'mon, raise your hands. Just me? I thought so.

One is excluded if one was not born until a couple decades later. :D

as cool as lightsabers are, they will get pwned by frequency rotating phasers. They may stop silly little laser bursts, but concentrated phaser fire from a trained starfleet officer pwn's.

i had always wondered how dr. "bones" mccoy got his nickname...now i know. ;)

Before the movie, it was much simpler than that. "Bones" is short for "sawbones", a common nickname for doctors. It's an Olde West thing, part of Roddenberry's "cowboys in space" concept that he used in order to sell the show to the network.

Saw the movie last night..

anyone that is 26 yrs old or older should watch it..

too bad there can be no more movies in that story line
