I was wondering if any of the other brothers out there tended to neglect their underdeveloped legs like myself...I'm a tall guy 6'2" and have been cursed with puniest calves in the world..I'm 235 with 18.5 bicepts 50 chest and 14.5 calves....I find that I wear jeans, cargos, sweats opposed to shorts most of the time...hardley ever work legs...only use my quads for an injection site :mix:

Well i did the same thing when i was younger now i pay the price! I been busting my ass to get my legs caught up with top half..One thing to think about you will find that your over all lifting balance and strenght comes from your legs..Since i worked my leg i have grown stonger over all in everything i do.You need the leg size and strenght for heavyer weight lifting! They will grow rather easy after the first month once you get use to them..Without legs your never going to see strong powerful lifting of anything.. Now snatching someone up and slamming them is a breeze also helps your lower back to! So get up quit ducking them and feel the change it will make for you.You will thank me down the line...Git R Done

Git R Done..I love it!!! I was known for my legs in high school cause they were so big from playing every sport in our school and then my sweet summer job as a lifeguard. After high school I took them for granted for quite a few years but still was very active in the Army. Then I broke my leg really bad in a night jump and my fucking legs just dissapeared so I looked retarded in shorts and I'm a shorts guy, ie beachboy6294. So I started back hitting legs and it's my favorite bodypart to workout now and the girls love to see those legs in shorts bro it's to hot down south to be covering them up!!

It is true...girls love the look of a nicely defined hamstring, good stuff. :)

Some people love to train legs and many hate to, but hell - if you're on the beach so much you better train 'em or you'll just sink in the f*ckin sand bro.

Here's some inspiration from a post I made about a year ago. Some have seen this already so my apologies. Former training partner emailed this to me a day or so before leg training. Take care.

Leg Day

I started to get edgy three days ago. It's like there's a giant clock
ticking in my head. It lasts right up until I enter the gym on reckoning
day. The ticking turns into a headsplitting air raid siren, and when that
happens people run for cover as my resentment builds. That something like a
million volts running through my veins. All I want to do is destroy the
weights. I don't train to become another athlete, I train to become "
Godsize ". Hardcore to me means being built to last. In the gym, I stay
focused, others call it Madness. I'm mean and nasty, it's an all out war and
I'm the underdog, and that's where I like it. No rest, no vacations, no pat
on the back until leg day is over. I might not win every show, but I will
bleed myself dry to dominate every battle in the gym. Every leg day that
goes by adds to my strength and development. I've been battered and beaten
but never ever fucking close to being broken. And I will remain un
breakable. This is my world, this is my sport, I been doing this to long to
let it beat me down. Welcome to my leg day, and I'm very glad to have you
with me during battle. Power be with You - name withheld.

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!! I thought my mind was sick.....Put that on a poster if it will fit!!!

I feel for ya, mostly cause it's not that I don't like training legs, but I have a hard time doing so physically..... Reason is I have bad knees that hurt whenever I squat down to pick something up off the floor, let alone doing squats in the gym..... My thighs have suffered a lil bit, I still do a lighter weighted Leg press, which hurts, but I just do it.... Then I do Leg extensions, which also hurts..... The place where I excel is my calfs.... To make up for my lack of Thigh mass, I work my calfs hard.... This way, when I have shorts on, my legs dont' seem as puny as my upper body.... However, I have to agree, if there is no reason that you can't work out your thighs, you should be blasting them..... One thing I have noticed with working out my thighs: When I start a cycle, I get the biggest strength gain in my thighs 1st.... Not sure why this is, but it's been true time and time again....

Legs used to be my favorite body part to work. Just a couple of years ago my squat was over 500lbs. However, the last couple of years my knees have kind of fallen apart (from squatting???) and now they look like crap. My articular cartilage on the top bones and the back of my knee caps is worn off in several places. I recently had a knee scope to remove some damaged meniscus that was detached and impinging my knee joint and while they were in there they removed several bone spurs. It's been a few weeks now and it still hurts like a bitch.

My advice, if you do decide to light a fire under your legs, work into it slowly. Avoid the temptation to wrap your knees and squat ridiculous amounts of weight and avoid the temptation to try to take it all the way to the floor. I never wrapped my knees and I never wore a belt, except on my heaviest sets (over 400lbs) but I did go fairly deep and I think that helped speed up the degeneration process.

I really miss squats. It's difficult to build quality size overall without that exercise. :sulk:

You cant see me..but im standing and clapping..well said..wow!! i really liked that..very inspirational (gonna copy and paste it).....should sell it to NIKE! To the bro that started the thread...you must squat bro...i love leg days...nothing like it...

You will find that NOT working your legs will hold back the rest of your body. Working legs, due to the large muscles mass, causes a potent systemic reaction that your whole body can benefit from.

HA HA! You think you are out of balance...You ought to try having 18.5 inch arms, a left calf at 19.5 , right calf at 14.5 , left quad at 26 and right quad at 24.5...

Now that is my legs....I neglegted them for years as you did and I am also tall (6'5"). I have trained them harder this year than I have all years combined. I have especially worked harder during my currnet cycle than ever. They are still super slow growing, but I gues that can be expected at the age of 39 and years of neglect!

The size difference comes from a broken leg that gave me trouble for about 8 years.

I am the opposit my legs grow like fucking poison ivy. Ever since I was akid my calves and quads have been huge. I skip leg days to keep um in check. My upper bod is a bitch! It takes me forever to grow my arms chest is fine but the arms are slow. Now imagine a guy with giant legs ok chest a small arms. I even had a full quad tare in my left leg and it rebounded. I just started a cycle to get my arms going and i know in a few weeks my calves wont fit in my jeans.

Listen to Zyglamail, and UAIron. Both are right on the money.
Anyone can go bust out a ton of arm curls, fuck that.
I have smaller calves, but still bust hump to try and get them bigger. It takes awhile, but it'll come. I work them 2-3 times a week now

20 rep squats bro will get you where you want to go IMO. Start at 20 reps and add 20-50 lbs every set till you cant get 20 reps. The weight you get stuck on at 12-15 reps make damn sure you get 20 reps the following week. Its all in your mind...Conceive...Perceive...Achieve...

yea most people got the upper body or the lower to grow fast. Personally I would like the upper and just work the lower hard. Which I do and even though I have small calves thats no excuse for puny quads

I alwasy had strong legs (from being an athlete) but never big. Over the past couple of years I have been pounding them with squats and deads.

The best compliment I received was over the summer when I buddy I haven't seen in a while said that I had gained weight, and it looked like it was all in my legs!

I still have a ways to go to get the legs where I want them, but working hard on the lower body has made the entire body stronger, without a doubt.

He is looking for size and strenght here my man, not stamina and refinement....

3 exercises, maybe four, no more than three working sets, no more than 8 reps, H E A V Y like wodin's ass heavy, heavy like you need to think in terms of 'displacement tonnage' rather than pounds.... that is to say LIFT HEAVY... 12-16 weeks of increasing weight every week, if you can only do 6 for the last set, then keep the weight the same until you get 8 solid then up the weight for the next week.

Squats-Deads-SLDeads-Heavy Alt Lunges-Heavy TUT strict Leg Ext & Ham curls... do calves on a different day: standing HEAVY, seated HEAVY and that'll do....

'Keep it simple, HEAVY and above all: INTENSE.'

After this phase go for your 20 rep/quick set agony phase for 8 weeks then start over.

*This advice is brought to you by a complete novice that is seeing tremendous progress with exactly this program: best progress of my life. Just one way to skin a cat, but there is a completely skinless cat laying here to prove it....

Bro...you gotta love legg day. You need to make it your favorite day to train. Trty doing different things...I do not squat, and I feel that I must do other thing to copensate. ( I do not squat heavy, fear of blowing out a very valuable knee or something) I love Plyometrics for legs. Jumping up and down on a rack of 5 or 6 steps from the step arobics room.
Take a few of the bases and add them on top of each other to make a step that is now knee high. Jump up jump down...over and over..... Plyo will crush your lower half if you do it right. There are many books that will give you some great Plyo Ideas.

Jumping rope is some of the best plyro training to do especially for some good A.M. cardio.

I do jump rope & hit the eliptical......I can squat in the 450-500 range on these sticks that look like 2 toothpicks hanging out of an olive...I've just got to do it...I think the wheel neglect is really holding me back.....I hit them last night and in 3 weeks..I'll start my new cycle 600mg test E/60mg Var for 10 weeks and try to put some size on them...I work out in my home gym..which doesn't have a squat rack...so it's a little scary to squat more than about 350 freestyle with no rack or spotter....I can do some hack squats too...I know you will say get to a gym with a squat rack..but I am 35 miles from a gym and work long hrs so it's next to impossible.

one other reason to train legs: they are large muscle groups....more muscle = more calories burned all day long. This means that if you pack 20 lbs of muscle on those legs, those 20 lbs burncalories.....this means that you'll have a larger muscle base to naturally burn off calories 24 hours a day.
