well thats the thing, i would squat FIRST. i would NEVER EVER do leg presses before squats.
first of all, i'm a powerlifter, so squats or deadlifts would be way more important (and therefor done first) than leg presses, BUT

they are also a compound movement, requiring way more muscle help than leg presses. You don't want to tire out your leg muscles before you're going to do something that will work your legs, back, calves, core, stabilizers, etc.

When you do Squats, the weakest link will give out first.
For you this is back, for others its hips or groin.

When you do Leg Press First you are targating the Quad/Ham/gluts complex in direct fashion, and in safe fashion.

When you do Smith sQuats after you then will be able to tire out the additonal stabliizers, and retrieve the benifits of the Squats with safety and ease, and also you will be very warmed up for them

I love people who plop 1000 pounds on the leg press or hack squat then basically flex their calves for ten reps.

well, maybe this conversation is moot, since i don't want to 'target my quad/ham/glute' - i want to squat (or deadlift) more.
smith squats do nothing for your stabilizers though- if you want to strengthen them, buck up and do real squats.

do you do real squats? i mean, with the bar and no machine?

I'm neither a bodybuilder or powerlifter, I lift to improve my functional strength. Compound movements including A2F squats and Deads are bread and butter to me. I use a smith machine for one thing only, it's a nice towel rack.

I can free wieght squat MORE then I can Smith Squat, since the Smith Squats forces me to have perfect form.

I am also 6'3

completely false.
they are anything but perfect when it comes to your form, which is not intended to move in a perfectly straight line.

omega, when you offered to train me for a powerlifting competition, were you seriously going to have me doing smith machine squats and leg presses before regular squats?
I think i've probably won a powerlifting trophy for more years than you've been lifting.
