Geek out time....new computer build

Nice. I'm in the middle of a computer build as well. I also purchased the Q9550. Paid $286 from Newegg.com a month or so back.

I almost pulled the trigger on buying the other components I still need a few weeks ago, but I'm hoping to catch some deals between now and Christmas.

Nice build man.

I'm gonna be upgrading soon here.
My current build:
Asus P5B deluxe wifi (P965 chipset - dated)
Intel E6400 (dated)
4x2gb G. Skill DDR2-1000 memory
7900GTO
640gb Seagate 7200.11 HD This thing FLYS!
2x74gb Raptor HD's (non-functional at the moment)

Why'd you go with the Samsung Spinpoint? It has 5 platters, newer hd's like the seagate 7200.11 have 2 platters - which generally correlates to better operating life. Though its not a bad drive at all.

Awesome video card. 512mb of video memory is fine with a GPU like the 4850.

The new intel core i7's are going to be like a grand when they first come out. They require DDR3 memory, and new expensive motherboards.

It will be the more cost effective route to build a skt775 platform well into next year.

I usually shoot for ARS Technica's Hot Rod build, which is mid-range cost. Cost and noise are major factors. Everything is fast these days. The Spinpoints are quieter which is important for me and it was only $110 or so. I almost went with DDR-1066 memory but I saw something that said 800mhz was all the bandwidth this config could actually use. I'll probably use it as it then try to overclock in a few months once it starts to feel slow.

I've got everything together. Looks like the video card will be here today. That's the last piece other than a multi-card reader. I just don't know if I want to go with 64-bit Linux yet. i think it's still missing some things.

Ok, who is going to build me one?

Nothing fancy, 4 gig of RAM or more.
2 hard drives 500g each

front slot media reader.

Using for Photoshop, digital photo editing, general net use.

I don't play games or shit on it so no need for the over the moon video card.

or should I just go to Bestbuy or Compusa and buy one.

50K to the person that finds me the best deal.

What fsb speed is that cpu rated for, I thought it was 1333 for the q9550.
