Been using the box in my sig since 2001'ish. All the parts for my new build should be here by Thursday.

Case - Antec P182
Power supply - SeaSonic S12 430W
Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3L
Processor - Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550
RAM - G.SKILL 4GB DDR2 800
Graphics - SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 4850 512MB
Hard drive - SAMSUNG Spinpoint F1 1TB 7200 RPM SATA

Onboard sound and I'll still with old speakers for now. I don't game much so I chose a quad since I encode a lot of video. Can't wait!

I pieced it together over a 2 month period so I didn't have to charge anything. I haven't added it all up...maybe $1,100 with shipping. Switching to a quad core at the last second almost doubled the processor cost to $350. I chose parts for low noise over performance since my computer is pretty close to the bed. My current PC is too loud to leave on at night.

Why only 512 MB for the graphics card?

Also, what size LCD screen did you get? widescreen?

If you don't play 3D games even 128MB is enough. I've had a 22" LCD for a while. It's fine.

AAP, the roommate is getting my hand me downs unless Niko steals it.

first off, aren't those qx9550's still like $500 or a little more? You gotta tell me where you're gettin em for $300.

Second, I would wait for maybe two months before you buy.......couple reasons.

1) Intel is coming out with a new chipset, so all the quad core's will drop dramatically in the next few months.

2) christmas is around the corner so deals will happen a month or so out.

3) this holiday season may suck ass so I'm kind of expecting the preholiday deals to be absolute blow outs. "IF" the tech industry doesn't cave to the speculation, they'll have no choice "after" christmas when they're stocks are unsold. I really think high end computer components are going to get hit hard this holiday season and it may extend well into next year. There's already been hints that the hardware companies are all going to slow down a bit to compensate for this economy. So you have software people saying that the next big step in software will happen in 2-3 years. The new intel chips may remain high, but I think all the quad cores are going to fall through the floor in january at the latest.

just my opinion, I could be wrong. BUt the economy is pointing in this direction for all industries.

yeh, that's why I'm asking. I'm a gaming fan.
oh, I would think 512MB would be enough for all but the highest resolutions. I just didn't want to pay for what I wouldn't use.

The Q9550 was $320 and it included some game called Far Cry 2, which I won't even play since I use Linux.
