Fukin Ipod!

hardrock

Go fuck your own face!
Platinum
So I got my new Ipod. They warrantied the last one cause it kept shutting off.

Anyway, I rip a bunch of CDs into my windows media player library, and when i go to sync so I can put them on my Ipod, I says I don't have a devide hooked up, or no devide detected.

I have windows vista Home premium o some shit. The songs play on my lappy, but for some reason it doesn't pick up my Ipod to dl them there.

WHat am I doing wrong.

Keep in mind the first time I turned on my Ipod was yesterday to DL the songs.

Help?

I do not have an iPod because I know better. I have a ZUNE which is superior and allows me to play any type of music, even pirated music.

I didn't get an iPod because you MUST use Crapple's software to stick the music on it. I also hear it will delete the music if you did not purchase it from their geigh online store.

Have fun with the iPod.

Did you try importing all of your music into iTunes, and DL'ing to your iPod from there?

No I didn't dl Itunes. Didn't really want to if I didn't have to. Do I need to?

Hardrock, I'm pretty sure you have to use Apple's software (itunes) in order to load songs onto the ipod. That's how was my girlfriends was if I remember correctly....

With your ipod came a booklet (and a cable and a CD).

Read that. Problem solved.

Everyone else relax. IPODs are still cool. False alarm.

I got the original for Christmas. i aint got no booklet or CD anymore.

So I need to dl Itunes and then Rip all those cd's again?

What version of Itunes should I use. i think there's like 132 of them by now.

You don't have to rip everything again, just let iTunes index it all. It's perfectly happy to install MP3's as well as the Music Store stuff. Just grab the latest one.

The part about stuff getting "deleted" from your iPod is a little confused. When you hook an iPod up to a computer it has never seen before, it's offers to let that computer OVERWRITE everything it has on it. It is not willing to upload its content to that computer, though -- that would make the RIAA go apeshit and start suing people right and left (oh, wait, they already are). That means you can't load it up at home and then take it to your buddy's place to copy your stash to his computer, nor can you add his collection of classic rock on top of your stuff without erasing the iPod. (That's the default. There are ways around it but let's take this one step at a time.)

The whole point is that your iPod is for carrying stuff around, not for storing it permanently. To keep the RIAA happy, the flow is supposed to be one-way only. Computer feeds iPod, period. If you hook it up to a different computer, you only get access to stuff that is already on that computer.

If you had something on your iPod and then you delete it from your PC, the iPod is going to figure you don't want it any more. If you want it back, you need to put it back on your PC first so you can put it back into your iTunes. Your iPod doesn't care whether that means ripping it again, or restoring it from an external disk, or buying it from the Apple Music Store; it just has to be on the PC and in iTunes.

Thank you Diggs. And thanks to all the rest of you. I will let you know how it goes.

I had troubles figuring out the damn iTunes software the first time I used it. Smooth sailing ever since then. I  my 3 iPods!

I can do all of what Digger said can't be done with the iPod with my ZUNE. It also has a wireless connection so if there are ZUNES close by we can share each others music without the need to connect to a computer.

Word.

Rule #1 - Don't use the IPOD to "archive" your files.

Rule #2 - See Rule #1.

(Rule #3 gomusic.ru > itunes FTW).

might as well own a betamax

I will not support them as they are scumbags.

I had my CC info stolen from a site on-line by some ying yang back east. They tried to rack up $1,300+ of web purchases. ALL the websites immediately recognized it as a stolen card or soon after a order was placed they caught it and refunded the money instantly. But not Zune, they completed a $300+ order and shipped it to an address 2500 miles away from me. Even specially engraved the ZunePod or whatever it is with the thieves name for extra $. I spent 2+ hours on the phone with them before they could finally find the original order, then the guy tells me, "uh, this is clearly a fraudulent order and should have never been processed. Nothing even matches with your info." NO SHIT SHERLOCK? And to top it off, they wouldn't give me the assholes name, he said he couldn't tell me anything because of company policy but told me the general area anyway. Fuck Zune and everyone that works for them, they can all die!

I hate MS products.

I have a new Toshiba that I cannot use because Vista is incompatible with the software I use. Zune is the only exception.
