FUCK east indians

isn't there a minimum 15% or 18% gratuity added to parties larger than 8 or 10 or something? I know they've done that shit to me before when I've been in a group.

yea its 18% bro.

BUT they paid with a gift card first, 50 dollars, then the rest on a cc. When i swiped the gift card, it cancelled the gratuity for some fuckin reason and when they signed the check, they left everything blank. If the gratuity was on there and they signed it and left it blank i would have gotten the 18%.

INstead I got around 1.3% lol

That's your fault. They saw the bill and it had the automatic gratuity on it. So when they paid I doubt they realized it changed. Shoulda talked to your manager

Prolly shouldn't have gone on and on about how great the steak special was.

My Friend Works at Red Lobster ,people are so cheap, he gets below min Wage the rest is in tips ,last week he brought home 85 dollars!

Bad tippers cross all racial lines. Bunch of cheap fuckers out there. I couldnt work off tips, I'd lose my job too quickly from cussin cheap motherfuckers.

A while ago I left a really bad tip - $1 or something slap in the face like that - because the waitress was terrible. Was slow and forgot drink orders a couple of times. She actually came out of the restaurant and yelled at us for leaving such a lame tip. I had to run and we all laughed.

lolol i mean if u deserve a low tip then thats something else. I cant believe she went outside to yell at u, id get fired for doin that

But in my case, they were all east indian, i would ask what they wanted to drink and they would say "ok". WTF i asked a question! Its like i knew i was fucked because we werent even communicating on the same level.

there was one person who spoke english and shes actually the one who left 3 dollar bills, the credit card check was blank.

15% for bad/average service 25% for good/great

damn bro 15% for bad/average service is generous

I have a question, do u expect them to be all smiley and fake or just fast and efficient? I mean i think its easier for a girl to act all smiley, and i just dont like that scene at all. but im still funny and ill joke around and smile just not extra smiley.

It's all about how well of a job you do imo. I just care that you do a good job and are polite. I don't need that fake shit. You don't have to chit chat, but at least smile and don't look like u hate your job.

If I go with a group of 18 I ASSUME grauity is automatically included int hat total.

You just got owned by a gift card.

c

dude seriously i got ownd by that fuckin gift card. My partner even went to the table and told them that gratuity was NOT added on the check, the guy just said "ok" in a 7-11 accent and walked off leaving me in shock, holding 3 dollar bill in my hand, frantically looking under cups and plates for some more cash

Must be new immigrants. Asians and many other cultures don't believe in tipping back home (which is why restaurant service always sucks in those countries!) and assume the same is here. Even in many parts of Europe, tipping is optional!

Definitely polite, efficient, and pays attention to refilling water, and when I'm ready to order I hate waiting 10 mins for someone to show up. It's not hard to just watch your tables while serving others to notice body language when they're waiting for something and pay attention to that. Fake and smiley, don't care.. but admit it if you did something wrong or took to long and fix it.

I start my tip at 20% across the board to any waiter/waitress. Depending on things I do or don't like I drop a percent or raise a percent each action. I never tip below 15% unless I seriously HATED their service. I generally will tip 18% on avg.

When I go to a place that I know has shitty service but amazing food. I have a twenty dollar bill, and I tell them the first time they come to our table. "This tip is for you, I'm tipping you preemptively, and I except you to deserve this tip. Thank you" It usually does the trick and even more. I don't think it's offensive, but it really pisses me off when I get a waiter/waitress who hates their job, and has a negative attitude, then carries it to their tables. Guess what, you're only causing the cycle to keep going by getting shitty tips from your attitude which makes you hate your job even more. Act and do things like you expect a 20% tip and I bet you'll start seeing bigger tips across the board. If someone hates their job that much, there's plenty of gas stations hiring and they pay at least minimum wage if not a dollar/hr more.

I tip 30% if the bill is $20 or less and 20% for bills over $20. I deduct for shit service accordingly.

as an indian, i'm deeply offended. just kidding.

we are cheap, and yes it's definitely a cultural thing to an extent. apparently, some
of us will even argue over some inexpensive retail shit at the checkout counter. "why is this $8.99?
can i have it for $3.99?"

which is loltastic.

having been raised here, i'm not quite like that, but i am fucking poor. oh, and also a miserable cunt.

but i usually tip around 20%, could be as low as 15%, or up around 25-30%. if the service is really bad, they deserve zero. that's rare,
but totally legit. only a worthless, entitled cunt would complain that you left no tip in that situation. of course,
that explains why you got bad service in the first place.

Here is quote from my friend Betsy at Express earlier this year.
"I refuse to ring up one more Indian person!"
She is Indian.

I'm new to the whole tipping thing since back in CR it's a flat 10% added to the bill regardless of you liking the service or not... here I usually tip 15-20% average but sometimes more for good service.... I went to Red Lobster and got the WORST service I have gotten here so far, spent like 20 min with no refill. it was close to closing time, maybe like 9:40 (closing at 10) when that bitch waitress was going by (for like the 9th time without serving us) I took my drink/ice and slurped like a child and she FINALLY came like 5 minutes after that.... the restaurant was not busy.... I left a 20% and my husband was very angry saying she didnt deserve it but I feel weird tipping less than 15%

I have a stupid question, is tipping a mandatory legal thing or just a way to express gratitude? excuse my noobness :)

Completely optional, you don't have to leave a penny if you don't want to. I've accidentally left zero tip before when I pay via debit card before and there's no place on their ticket to add tip.

One thing that pisses me off is when they ask if I need change. Don't ask, just do it you asshole. Then they come back with a $10 bill for change. Fuck you, you're not getting $10 off of a $15 tab. In those instances I leave whatever change I have in my pocket, and I tell the server why.

Signed, former server with enough common sense to bring back fives and ones for change.

I wonder if they were drunk? and I dont know too many east indians that eat at restaurants other than their own (indian/paki food). They're mostly vegetarians.

lol

Didn't have teh cojones to make a thread titled "FUCK black people"?

Wait, it's still trendy to hate "towel heads", right? I can never remember who it's okay to prejudice against.

Oh, and I hate high-tip trolling. You're a fucking waitor. If you want money, get a real job that pays over minimum wage. HTH

no. they don't.

there's no tipping at all in Asia because they have a set wage to account for tips. it's just not customary

in europe and south america, typical gratuity is about 10%

I read first-hand (:D) that in many countries, tipping is offensive. And in others, it's effectively built into their system, so there exists no prestige-whoring american types perpetually talking about how much they tip.

Disclosure: I never understood the tipping system here.

Some maybe I can try to understand, but tipping your hair dresser? that's retarded, tiping for take out? Stupid....

Why is this only in sit-down restarurant settings, though? It's like there's some invisible force trying to over-compensate waitstaff or something.

:cow:

Wait staff in sit-down restaurants are paid at a rate that is considerably less than Minimum Wage. It's expected that they'll make up for it in tips. Supposedly the savings are passed along to the customer, over what they'd have to pay if wait staff were actually paid a living wage.

this is the answer for tipping in america. waitstaff get W2 wages of about $3/hr.

So do you guys tip at like....Starbucks? I bought a coffee at Starbucks (I was in the drive thru) and the chick handed me my change and I didn't have enough time to put it down before she handed me my coffee. I (stupidly without thinking) reached out to get my coffee with my change in hand and she took my change thinking it was a tip.

the only time i'll tip at restaurants that aren't full service is if i get hooked up somehow, like free double meat at chipotle. usually i'll pass half of my savings back to the staff

Do you make minimum wage or service minimum wage Glad?

LOL, damn.... how much was the change?

LOL, damn.... how much was the change?

4 freaking dollars! Paid like $6 for the coffee and a piece of bread. But Ima bitch, so I told her to give it back. I did let her keep $1. :D

But usually I don't tip at places like that.

i make 8.25/hr but they tax your reported tips, so for a 25 hrs in 2 weeks, that would be 206.25, but they tax your tips so if your tips were 300, you would get:

$206 MINUS whatever the tax would be on $506 bucks

ends up being like 140 bucks or some stupid shit

There can be only one solution:

Apricot Seeds.

at least it's not service minimum wage...

But think about how much better they are using your money than you would. You'd probably just waste it, whereas the gubment is investing that money for you!

We should just eliminate them all then.

Well, they chose a low-paying career. Not like people in sales *expect* everyone to buy their product for a premium; they chose a consignment-based career they think they can excell at.

My problem is that every waiter/waitress thinks they are entitled to high tips. I thought the purpose was to reward exceptional service, not shitty to mediocre service.

We need to eliminate tips and set them all to minimum wage to eliminate this entitled unique butterfly syndrom.

I totally agree. I went out last night and asked for a refill on my soda. Never got it, but I felt obligated to give a decent tip.

That's really more your problem than a problem with tipping in general. The purpose is to reward great service and if you reward poor service, that waiter has no reason to change.

I usually tip about 20%, but I have no problem leaving a shitty tip if I get shitty service and neither should you. Sometimes I'll even write down why they got a shitty tip on the receipt so they know.

That's just how it is. Don't feel guilty.

But IMO an over-attentive waiter is way worse than an under-attentive one. You know, that annoying ass waiter that talks to you about life like your friends and takes it upon themselves to sit down with you. You're my waiter, not my friend. Get up.

What the? Where do you go to eat??? I've never seen that happen before in my life.

c

It's happened to me more than once in more than one restaurant. I'll be sitting in a booth and the waiter will be making small, non-food related small talk and before I know it they're sitting down...

I guess that's just me?

I had Chefs do this, and its not appreciated by me yet others seemed to love it.

if they were set to minimum wage, food would just be more expensive. yea, you are picking up some slack of bad tippers under the current system, but i still think it's worth it because it sets a good incentive for servers to perform well

Same thing happened to me on Friday in TGIF (only damn thing open on Christmas day) but the place was packed and the waiter told me he asked for the refill and the bartender still didnt have it, so I felt bad punishing him for it...

lol there was this rib place in austin called bone daddys, maybe superdave's been, but the waitresses slut it out so hard there it's almost embarrassing

yea i been there when it first opened, and its still open. waitresses are good sluts and shit. we also have a place called Bikinis, basically hooters except they wear, you guessed it, bikinis.

yes. It's called a horny guy trying to hit on you. You're so niave little girl.

I'm not naive. I didn't say I didn't know why they were doing it...but that doesnt make it any less annoying when all I want is for them to put my plate on the table, make sure my foods ok and walk away.

either way im not takin parties again or east indians. I told my manager that right after this happened and she said "then dont come" and i said "ill just give the tables to my partner"

lol fuck restaurants. BTW there is this guy that i work with that converses with every table for 5 minutes and is oloud and obnoxious imo but tables love him and he always gets good tips. fuck that

Racist!

indians are the worst bro. my sister was a server from when she was 18 until she graduated college at like 26 lol. she says the same shit.
