Those may be bench marks. If I use relatively heavy weight and don't have some cloth between my skin and the bench, I'll get marks under both shoulderblades where capillary beds rupture.

I'm soooo glad you posted this bro!!! i've been having a similar problem, not bench but if i use any machine that you hold the weight on your shoulders, like leg press and standing calf raise, after just one set i have red/purple marks on my skin from where the pad was digging in to me. they look like really new, fresh stretch marks, but fade leaving no scar in a few days. Is what i'm describing normal?? what can i do to stop this from happening??? its limiting the equipment i can use!!! original poster - sorry i'm not trying to hyjack your thread!!

You are breaking the capillary vessels in the skin on your back. It creates what looks like a bruise, but it's very shallow as compared to a real bruise.

Personally I think it comes from side-to-side shear and not direct pressure. Imagine this: Let's say you have skin to bench contact with the bench press and your skin is just clammy enough to lock-in with the bench cover. Then as you bench and drive with your legs, you push yourself backward on the bench. The shear forces would create waves of broken capillaries across your back.

Here are a couple of ideas:

1) Make sure forces acting between you and the bench are directly normal to the support surface.

2) If you do have some sheer-to-bench forces, put a shirt or towel between your skin and the bench.

I'm still curious about how much test and how much deca is he using.........nobody else wonder that?
