finally buying a home gym!

the gyms here are too "commercially orientated."

anyway, it's a dream that may soon come true. the only source for equipment that i know of here in markham is fitness depot, and comes out to be around $1400CDN for the stuff i want:

- your basic power rack (about 750CDN): http://www.fitnessdepot.ca/products/strength/powerracks/NL-POWR.htm

- a flat bench (170 ish): http://www.fitnessdepot.ca/products/strength/benches/NL-flat.htm

- and a shitty oly barbell of which i wish there was another choice:http://www.fitnessdepot.ca/products/accessories/weightaids/plateweights/olympicSet.htm

- in total i'm buying about 500lbs of plate weight... going to add in a couple of 45s

- belt for weighted chins...

that's it.

any ideas, input?

i'd really like to splurge on a nicer oly bar as i will be doing cleans and such.

oh, and any tips on building my own platform?

thanks for the help! :)

You've not found a single decent gym in the GTA ?

BTW I would buy a flat/incline bench rather than a flat only one

the combo benches just seem so flimsy to me, plus they feel kind of weird when flatbenching...

the goodlife in my area blows. a few dollars shy of $600 for the first year of membership... and that's wit hthe "student discount"

i managed to get a few weeks worth of free membership from just those one week invites but they are starting to notice who i am :p i mean, no one in the gym deadlifts or squats

I have the exact power rack.

If your in the GTA area, before you buy from fitness depot, check out fitness source www.fitnesssource.ca i found there prices are cheaper then FD. There 300 pound set is cheaper then fitness depots price i know that.

I don't think i've been to fitness depot since i've bough from fitness source, they have more shit at a better price.

Check there locations, i know theres one in the markham area.

I just noticed you said you wanted to do cleans and stuff, If your into olympic lifting there are a few really really good oly gyms in the GTA area, not sure on the prices, but if you wanna do oly lifts and learn how to do them correctly, i'd join one of those gyms. Bumpers around here will cost you huge money, i've checked into them.

I think there 3 Oly gyms, so if you want the numbers and what not shoot me a pm, i have them written down somewhere.

Either way
Good Luck

DO NOT BUY THAT POWER RACK!!!
Its too small.
Northern lights makes horrible equipment. I wouldnt buy any of there shit ever.
Its cheap, it will break, and its not sized right.

But what i would get is
Bumper plates (you sound like youve got the dinero and you said you wanted to do cleans)
A GHR
A reverse hyper
Something to do dips off of.
A campered bar.
Some Plyometric boxes- or you could build these

the GHR will cost me too much on top of the $$$$ bumpers and the rack...

reverse hyper? $$$

i don't have the dollars for all that stuff.

hey, pm on the way bro

nice; by the time I can afford a house i'll be too old to lift.

But fuck dont buy anything from northern lights, youll regret it.

Power rack, bench and olympic kit is a good idea, but just not that brand.
