Fiat returns

I think it's an easy bet to argue the Cinquecento (500) is going to be a success over here. I'm not sure about Fiat's estimate of 50,000 units a year, not for a few years at least, but I do think Canadians and Americans are finally ready to buying micro cars in large numbers.

In big cities with narrow roads and limited parking + poor public transport system - yeah. 50,000 - no way.

At the end of the day, most Americans still like to get out on the open road and these cars just don't have a great ride for that.

Look at the Mini sales. It's realistic...eventually.

One current barrier to that sales goal though is the power in the car about to arrive. Only 101hp. Mate that with the auto, which I think might the only tranny they are planning to offer over here, and you got poor power for driving situations apart from strictly urban environs. The Abarth edition that might arrive next year adds 30 hp and 30 ft/lbs would be fine though.

YEah - and I like the mini. It had two other things going for it, it was the old sentimental favorites for the brits or the british culture and BMW gave it sex appeal.

my mom had a fiat spyder when I was a kid.....I learned how to drive a 5 spd on it :)
it was stolen and destroyed tho :(

yeah you did...I had a moment of serious interest except yours is carb not injected right?

really?

theres used to be a guy, but I dunno if hes still there that has a repair shop and dealership thats all FIAT
he'd have a couple from time to time but seemed like if they didnt have collosal rust issues theyd have electrical issues or droped transmission synchros...

fuck if I know if it's carb or injected. It's like a 78/79 so i'd have to assume carb but that lil chicklet on wheels does nothing for me. I can't even fit in it.

Car was free tho...

then you should send it to me for the cost of transport..tyia

eta, yeah its carb then.. think they went to injected in 80 or 81

lol...troo....although! I might know someone that does hauls through that way...hmmmmmm

they were POS's then ... they are still POS's today

yeah but theyre fun..and obscure looking

fuck it....I'll get a jeep instead..I miss my jeep

both topless in case anyone was wondering where that came from

They're no 4cyl gold mist malibu!!!!!1

My 1st ride was a '76 pearl white Malibu wagon with slotted mag wheels. With the wagon's substantial rear weight, I could pull a rockford any time I wanted. Until the day I rolled a tire off the rim and chipped one of my mag wheels.

After that I went to a '72 Duster with the 318. It laid rubber much better than the Malibu but I missed the station wagon when it came time to park with the girlfriend.
