Fat Girl strikes again!

So, i am at the gym tonight, just finished shoulders, and i started hamstrings. I started with a light warmup set on lying leg curls. I put my stuff on the machine and go get a drink of water. But when i go back, i turn the corner to get the machine and all i see is ASs as far as the eye can see. And not good ass , its the kind of ass that stretches as far as the eye can see. It turns out while i was getting my water, this fat girl comes over, takes my stuff off the machine, and uses it.

Fine, i figure, i will just alternate with her. But no! Of course she has to be one of the useless people who remains ON the machine inbetween her sets - like it would kill to burn a few extra calories and get up once in a while. So i got totally booted off my machine. And because my gym sucks, there was no other gym like it.

Now generally, i respect fat people in the gym cause i figure they are making the effort, and hell, i an't the leanest guy. But i HATE people who are just plain inconsiderate. I mean it was the machine I was using! And i was literally gone like 15 seconds gettings a sip of water. I hate when that stuff happens.

Once again, i would like to state that my gym sucks ass

thats another reason why you should never use machines ;)

very few machines do have their place though, like the reverse hyper and..well, thats probably it.

What should i do instead of machines for hammies? When i got kicked off the leg curl, i did some dead lifts, but i just didn't get into it cause i was so distracted.

Other than dead lifts, lying and seated leg curls, i dont know what else to do??

Sorry about the mistake, when i said dead-lifts, i mean stiff legs. I dont do regular dead lifts cause i can never seem to do it right and it always its my shins and quads (dangit!).

But generally, i like to do hamstrings first on the lying or seated leg curls, then do deadlifts so that my hams are fatigured and i dont have to do big weight on the stiff legs so i can concentrate on hams and not so much on lower back.

Lying leg's are one of the most effective hamstring excersises. IMHO.
I agree I cant stand people that are that inconsiderate, I noticed that when i go to use the water foutain i get jacked on some machines too. So i just started bringing a water bottle, solved that problem. ;)

That tends to mean you're doing them correctly, if I'm not mistaken?

No matter what even if you just do stif legged dead lifts, if you do them for more than 8 weeks, your body will start to adapt to this movement, limiting your gains. Even if you use machines IMHO at least your switching things up which is good to do IMO. Theres too many negative views on machines, which is completely rediculous, you want to isolate a muscle go with a machine, or isolation moves i guess.

Why didn't you open your mouth and tell her you were using the machine, you just went to get some water?

I'm sure she would let you back on.

Try doin deadlifts with the sumo form. That should eliminate the problem of it hittin your shins and quads.

dude what are you thinking you should've bodyslammed that hoe

the only machines that have ever done anything for me were:

1) reverse hyper(if you can consider it a machine)

2) low pulley - pull-throughs and slow curls at an odd angle

thats it

most other machines dont even have enough weight on the stacks. im not very strong or anything, i'm just saying that for a lot of machines, people's bodies work differently on them.

i still think its not a good idea to start an excercise at an unnatural position and go through a fixed plane of motion.

I was just thinking the same thing........why would she move if you didnt let her know that you wanted to use the machine??

I would have said something, but i dont much care for confruntation. The last time some chick took my machine (leg adductors) i told her that i had been using it and i would like to work in with her... and she looked up at me (another woman who choses to sit on the machine inbewteen sets) and in this really snoody voice she was like "NOOO, im using it!"

I was soo pissed off at this, my whole rest of the workout was totally thrown off. Now i have learned to just try and work around the problems in my gym, not confront them!

Too bad its inappropriate to hit women!

stiff legged deads, while good for the hams, shouldn't be the end all be all of your hamstring training. for two years all i did was stiff legged deads and thought that was enough for my hams. then when my training split worked out to me moving my stiff legged deads over to a traps/hams day, i needed another exercise to hit my hams. so i laid down on a machine and cranked out some leg curls. my first set i failed on my 10th rep with the pin at 60lbs. at that stage in my training, i was doing heavy SL deads 315 for sets of 5. i thought my hams had decent strength to them. NOPE. since then in about two months of doing machine leg curls i've more than doubled the amount of weight i can do and my hams have thickened up. stiff legged deads doesn't really do much as far as strengthening the two tendons(i have no idea what the medical terms for them is) that go from your hams to your traps(on the opposite side of the knee). that was was a major weakpoint for me for a while there.

Supersizeme, yeah, i never really feel the pump in hmy hams after SLDLs. My lower back gets super pumped, but all i really feel is a stretch in my hams at the bottom of the movement.

I am gonna start doing what I think someone calles ham/glute raises where you lock your feet in and lower yourself (face down) with your hams. I tried it this weekend, just to see what it was like, and it felt super awesome. I had to push myself back up with the help of my hands, but just from one test set, i could tell it was gonna work wonders for my hams.

Excited now to get to hams day.... damn- 4 days away!

yes, glute/ham raises work well..especially if theres no access to a machine. any more good hammie lifts anybody cares to share?
