Everyone Should See This

Everyone Should See This!

I'll try and get more information for everybody on this, but for now, I felt it was worth mentioning.

There's bootleg tape of the 1966 Mr. Olympia that my buddy Dennis Weis (The Yukon Hercules) sent to me, and I have to say, it is fucking awesome!!!

You won't believe how good some of these guys look. No GH. No clen. No slin. No diuretics. No anti e's. They're friggin RIPPED!!!

One interesting thing was seeing Harold Poole against Larry Scott. Poole always had freaky musculature in pictures, but next to Scott, he looked small. I swear Scotts arms are as big as his freakin'head!

A truly inspiring video -- especially knowing that these guys had no advantage over anyone on this board. If fact, we have the advantage over them!

Humbling -- to say the least.

So...you gonna make copies and sell it or not. Scott was awesome in his day. I'd like to see it. I have Muscle mags from that era.

No, that woudn't be cool.

At first I think the guy just made copies for friends but now I believe he's selling them. (Norm -- can't remember his last name). It's very different seeing them on stage than in pictures. The most obvious difference is that their muscles "popped" when they posed -- something curiously absent from todays competitors.

yeh but they took gear all right! and obviously had superior genetics. I always though Scott looked like he was retaining quite a bit of water, his face always looked a little bloated too.

Okay, got the info from the source.

Go to www.ironage.us I posted a thread "Somebody Must Know This" and sure enough, Norm came right on with the details.

I'd recommend it to anyone interested in the heyday of bodybulding and for anyone who'd be interested in seeing what is possible with minute amounts of gear and nothing else. (Except for balls to the walls workouts).

20 dollars sounds so much better than 35, throw in SH and your up to 40. Granted its not a mainstream mass produced video but it still sounds kinda steep

It is kinda steep, but it really is a piece of history and the guy profiting is the guy who documented it. Persoanlly, I think it probably wouldn't hurt to see if he'l come down in price. As I learned long ago, almost everything is negotiable.

I remember seeing some of that footage from '66 on the Dave Draper story on E! tv. The wierd thing was, he looked as big (in most ways) as somebody like Craig Titus does today. I know he didn't weigh as much as Craig, but I was shocked to see just how good he looked for being "back in the day."

I'm gonna have to set aside some money for this one. I'm definately interested in it. Thanks for reminding me about it!

I think that 35 bucks is a pretty fair price for a piece of history. I paid more than that for a meal and a few beers, for my wife and I at a shitty hamburger joint yesterday. (actually the hamburgers were pretty good) And it cost at least that much for the tapes sold at local npc shows, some of which are of very poor quality.

That's how I look at it. I drop 10 bucks on a 5 minute cab ride and what do I have to show for it? This is something ou have for life.

I should warn everyone, this isn't a flashy MTV quality video. It was recorded on an old tape reel recorder (forgot what they were called but the older bros here may remember their dad pulling down the while screen in the living room to watch home movies). There's also no sound. :( Just some narration from Norm. It's really archaic footage. If you do get it, look out for Rick Wayne. Holy Fuck, if he was around today he'd blow everybody away.

It's also funny to see some of the guys who didn't place but were considered "Muscle Men" . I'm thinking ' I could have entered the Mr. Universe in 65'!' But of course Dave Draper would have kicked my ass. Hell, today the dude's 60 and he still kicks my ass.

Rick Wayne had once of the best tapers along with some of the greatest abs that I've ever seen. I think that perhaps he was a little to out spoken for the times. A very good writer also.
