Didn't you just put more insulation in your attic GL? I put another 15" up there this past fall and even with the increased cost of gas/electricity my bills are still better than they were a year ago. It makes a huge difference.

Last year my winter heating bills were $200-330 a month. My most recent one was for $175.

Yes, I added an average of 12-16 inches more insulation up in the attic. My usage is lower than last year's but the actual price is higher because of the price increase per therm.

aap, HOLY SHIT! Are you in a single family house? A townhouse or condo would have heat from other units to help...

Also, last month's bill was only $250 and I just got this month's at $353, so those who had lower bills could still get sticker shock, like Humorme did. Sorry man, it sucks.

$353 ??? Are you living in Alaska ? Or maybe in a freezer ?

My rates are high. I did'nt want to ask too detailed a question like "How many therms did you use last month?" lol So I just asked how much the bill was. I actually used LESS than last year, about 20-35% less and my bill was higher this year for the same month because of the increase in gas prices.

We're paying over $1.00 per therm/gas.

I think my house is a natural 64-66 degrees with the heat off at 20 degrees outside. So, overnight if i keep that temp on the stat, the heat won't run. The house is very well insulated but i'm still looking to improve on it. I hope that $353 bill gets better next month (from last year) due to the new insulation.

lol, i know where GL is and I'm not that far off in temperature. its cold.
you know, it also depends on how many people are in the house and if someone is there all day. if you have kids and can't keep the house really cold and they are using TV's and computers or air conditioners and leaving lights on, etc, it adds up.

Yeah, I'm the only one who lives there plus I do not leave lights, tv's, etc on so I am sure that cuts down on costs.

It's a house by itself, so no ajoining units or anything.

$15.
