EF populace, what's your opinions on a no holds barred version of chat?

There's a restaurant in the Hamptons that only seats well known, famous or attractive people in the front and as you walk back towards the kitchen people get uglier, louder and more "bonac".

Teenie bopper stores have the same idea when it comes to hiring staff, attractive in the front and less attractive in the stock room.

Imagine the shock when you think you're getting a slice of sweet aromatic hot apple pie but when you start to chew you realized it's black pudding pie instead.

Another drawback is how to protect the members who don't care to venture in the forum from flames/abuse from those that do.

Just because a member might not read the insults about them, doesn't give others the right to say them.

Bonacers are people that were born in a certain part of East Hampton and come from generations of family born there as well, bonac comes from the name Accabonac as in the Accabonac Harbor.

People tend to use the term "bonac" to refer to the "redneck" types of the area.

If you think things are acrimonious now, you might want to remove yourself from any debate, to prevent any harm to your psyche.

I still think this kaffeeklatch style of chat has really lost some good people to the board that added insight to any discussion. There are people from all walks of life here, some more acerbic than others just like IRL. People offend sensibilities all the time. You can't avoid it by "G' rating the entire world.

So how does the play-nice C&C work anyway? Do you simply post: "I'm offended" if someone says something that offends you and the mods take it from there? Do you PM a mod for every offensive post? How do you insure every offensive infraction is properly investigated? Would a mod who isn't religious be charged with taking-up the cause of a deeply religious member if they become offended?

the problem with just allowing the no no behavior on the plat only chat is that there shouldn't be a thread anywhere on this site where someone can post false info on someone, post their real name, address, etc. What good does it do to just move the threads around. The garbage that is spewed about another member is still garbage no matter where you move it. It's much like sweeping dirt under the rug.

This is what baffles me... if someone is going to show-up here and post about their fascination with jerking-off to gay midget porn while their balls are immersed in motor oil, how in the world can they act surprised when someone calls them out about it at a later date?

Hint: If you don't want a specific aspect of your personal life splayed across the pages of EF, don't offer the information!

And yeah JR76 has a point things are already acrimonious enough...

But did you miss the announcement that they will soon "clean up" Chat? That's the point. The acrimony will be abolished by fiat, enforced by draconian moderation. Yet they are apparently wise enough to know better than to throw out the baby with the bathwater, therefore the new den of acrimony will be set up away from public view.

I suspect that when this happens, the new board will be where all the good threads are.

I'd rather just see a return of Chat to the general level of discourse and oversight that existed around 2004-2005 -- after Kronk, before the Bomb.

But if Chat is fated to become increasingly bowdlerized and Disney-family-friendly, then yeah some other place for the adults to play would be a good safety valve.

I think the heydays of chat are over. Now it is going to be so banal that cobwebs will form over the forum. Heated discourse is what caused the traffic in chat. Not happy discussions over the newest flavored java at Starbuck's
