A brief case history---
In 2004 I popped my shoulder out of the socket(doing military presses) and luckily it went right back in. I did not go to a doctor. I was able to lift through the residual pain and within 1 month I was lifting hard again--seemingly fully recovered.
In October 2007 The same shoulder started to nag me. Within a week of trying to lift on the nagging shoulder it got progressivley worse--although I couldnt pinpoint which exercise caused it. By early november I could no longer lift and the shoulder hurt every day. Things like driving were causing flare ups and sleeping became increasingly difficult. I went to the Dr. in december fearing the worst-an Xray revealed a Type III separated shoulder but an MRA revealed no major ligament damage. However-ever since the 2007 flare up my shoulder clicks a lot and often feels like bones are grinding. My gut tells me the separated shoulder (when two of the shoulder bones no longer are attached) has been there since 2004 when i dislocated it and i never noticed.
I continued to rest the shoulder til mid january and then I started lifting again---very light. When I do chest, back or shoulders(shoulders ive been mostly avoiding) occasionally the shoulder will get tender-but usually only for a day. I've been doing very light weight. I want to get back into doing dips and dumbells but I'm scared of reaggrivation. If the injury in 2007 was actually only a bad strain instead of the separation which I attribute to the 2004 injury--how worried should I be? Can a shoulder strain jack me up for this long? Do you guys have ane methodologies for safely bringing a shoulder back to form? Any information is much appreciated because I really have the itch to start putting some weight up again and its fckin with my head.
