Does anyone remember this board back in 2000

My problem with all out bodybuilding...

I used to have a life. A very good life. My free time alternated between scuba diving, rafting, kayaking, boating, snowmobiling, ATVing, hunting and shooting.

Then I decided to try and get "jacked". I spent a lot of money on it but that isn't the problem. The problem is that I quit doing other things. A major reason for this is that ones muscles are exhausted for a while after a big workout. I went snowmobiling yesterday and my arms felt like spaghetti. It is harder to concentrate on work when one is totally focused on the next workout. How much energy do you have after a monster workout? Not too much unless you are on a lot of gear.

Then I compare the hard core lifters to those with a life outside of the gym. I see humor, personality, brains, and compassion by the guys with other interests. I look at the posts of those who only have one interest. They impress me all right....though not in a good way. Frankly....I wouldn't want to be like them.

I can't tell you how many times I have compared members of a group. The jacked guys demonstrate nothing other than posturing and their simpleton jobs. Wher is that going to get you? Respect at the gym?

You want to be jacked? Terrific. I just think there is a horrible price to pay for that. A price I am no longer willing to pay. Except for Spring Break....I will get jacked for that. :D

(not very) Bilt...I dont know if that sacrifice thing was from citrus' post but you're missing the point...back then this place was comprised of guys who wanted to get huge...now the tone towards bodybuilding in a hardcore fashion as you can see from your posts and other posts on this thread is more one of disdain, consistent with a more 'general public' audience of members... and T-boy, I have a 3.5-3.8 gpa, my life is generally balanced though in comparison to 'the norm' - lacking in the social department, primarily by choice ...

Back in those days there were more members who BELIEVED in bodybuilding...hard to explain it to most of you....fact is, this used to be a place for bodybuilders to congregate and discuss other issues, there was always a respect and commraderie among us because of our common passion - Now it is a place that everyone found first on a search engine where you get criticized by this collection of part timers... gear has nothing to do with the equation. For example, SSME is natural and I KNOW he trains harder than alot of the half ass juicers around here

Yes the sacrifice thing was from Citrus' posts.

And no its not disdain. I think its quite rare that anybody puts down any other member if they are talking about personal bests, or arm size, or weight, or any other BB related stat. Its just once the HI's of the board start putting down guys that weigh the less that people start acting disdainful.

I have no inherent disdain at all for hardcore BB's, and in fact I respect (however no more than I admire hardcore downhill mountain bikers, or snowboarders etc..) their dedication and determination. And of course Im somewhat jealous of the poundages they are throwing up, but I'm also jealous of guys making 15 foot drops on their bike.

Basically its not a disdain for hardcore BBing at all... its a 'fuck you' to a couple of posters who really think they are above other posters. Don't misinterpret a "fuck you HI" to mean "I hate BBing."

I'm not sure where to draw the line on what is hard core but this is my experience. Juice/lift a typical guy to 17" arms and he becomes an asshole to many. Full of disdain and criticism to all those "beneath him".

I've been highly involved in other sports and this perspective is unique to the hard core bodybuilders. Basketball players, triathletes, climbers, skiiers etc. don't call those outside their world a bunch of losers, dwarfs, fatties etc.

If the bodybuilders would drop their arrogance, disdain, criticism etc. they would be much better received. What goes around comes around. For example, I have seen HI and C blast the hell out of other guys dozens of times. Fine....but don't come whimpering to the chat board about hurt feelings when it gets turned around.

Besides...I dwarf you....loser. :D

But really... so what if they are half ass juicers, or even half ass natties?
If your only criteria by which you judge another persons worth/value is by how hard they hit the iron then you are shortchanging a boatload of great people, and putting a lot more worth on others that arent so deserving.

However I do see your point. I think an analogy would be like skiers posting on a snowboarding board.... sure there are similarities, but there are also differences and you are on the board to talk with like-minded individuals and nobody else.

Until a board requires pics and stats for membership I think you'll be outta luck. And who knows... you might be surprised how many of the EF "unhardcore" might make the cut onto a board like that.

You know what I'd like to see. Hard core juicers hang on the anabolics board. People into training hang out on the training board. People that want to exchange everyday ideas about life, hang out on the chat board.

Maybe I should go the anabolics board and bitch about the lack of chat?

LOL.

I'll go to Training and whine about the absence of Spanish posts.

First off, unless you are a PRO, I doubt you dwarf me... I weighed in at 245 just yesterday... now, to dwarf me, you should be weighing in at 300 or so...

Second, you and Bilt are completely missing the entire point of this post.

We are saying the board got along better when the general population was comprised of bodybuilders... because there was an understanding that everyone was working toward a common goal... that EVEN IF the people had NOTHING else in common, they had the fact they sacrificed in the gym, they sacrificed in their diet, that they focused on the building of their bodies...

Now, you dont have it. Sure, Big4Life may workout... but from his posts, I can tell he doesn't have that desire, that drive... especially with certain remarks he has made... do I respect him less? Well, I dont have that original respect I'd have for the Ranger's, Frackal's or HI's... so it takes me time to know and understand Biggy...

The point is, when everyone or the majorty were bodybuilders... they would have that mutual respect for each other... RIGHT off the bat... and the blood wouldn't be sour..

Now, much more sour blood... almost a rift.

As for HI... I think that if people knew he as only fucking around half the time, they wouldn't take him half-as serious when he's joking around...

I came for the first time in 1997, the board was uggly and moved slowly but so was the whole internet back then. Then things changed, they added some features and forums. But till 2000 I think (I might be wrong) there was only 3 mods: El Cubano, Bizz and Dino strong i think. Now this board has lost part of its identity.

But things can't keep on going this way and this is why we may see a radical change soon.

OK Puc - you are right. :)

It is really too bad that you have this "outsider" view of things when you are the only person who put yourself there.

Just admit that your problems with me SPECIFICALLY began because I would not tell you every detail of what went on with all that retarded bullshit several months ago. There are people on this board whom I consider close friends and would love to visit if they were more geographically desirable and would not hesitate for a moment to have in MY HOME if they came this way that do not know the specific details of what went on. I, myself, am still waiting for court dates. Most of the board members either figured it out to a large extent on thier own. Many more have gotten bored and long since tired of it. But you, for some unknown reason have had a bug up your butt with me ever since.

What you are forgetting is that I DON'T OWE YOU ANY MORE THAN I EXPECT THAT I HAVE EARNED FROM ANY OTHER BOARD MEMBER AND DESERVE NO LESS THAN WHAT I GIVE TO ALL BOARD MEMBERS.

For me, there is no imaginary line between mods and all board members. That line exists in YOUR HEAD ONLY.

Like I said... YOU put yourself on the "outside" no one else did.

And you are not on the "outside" because of your diet/intensity/training WHATEVER. It is because you have become a nasty internet persona. If you like it there, that is cool. It makes no difference to me whether you are fat or not just as I am sure it makes no difference to you whether or not I have a four inch clit. But you seem to keep speaking about this as if you know whether or not I even have a clit!

If you think that constantly berating people with disgusting four letter names, etc is what makes for an environment that is what people LIKE then YOU GO BOY!

Back in the day people with your current attitude would have lasted about 1 day. And you can give me all the freedom of speech rhetoric you like. You know it is the truth.

One does not have to be a foul-mouthed hater to speak truth. One only has to speak about FACTS. The use degrading language only brings us all down.

Yes, please go on about the kettle calling the pot black because I, for one, am known for my "drunken sailor" style of writing LOL. But point out to me a singular circumstance where I relentlessly hounded another as nauseum becuase I was "speaking the truth" or where I didn't admit and humbly apologize when I was wrong?

ok kini... let me toss a fuck you in your direction.

Did my dislike of you begin at that moment? Yes. That part is obvious. I used to believe in you. I used to like you. Is that why i still dislike you? Nope.

The reason I dislike you is that since your marriage started crumbling, you seem to have lost some communication skills. At one time, you seemed to be able to write to others on this board and treat them as adults. Now, I would only assume because your life is dedicated to parenting, you always come off sounding "parental." It is a weird vibe i get from reading your posts. A combination of condescension and arrogance that is identical to how parents act when they are talking to their children. For example, sending me a message saying "Leave me alone" is one thing. "I will not tolerate you disrespecting me!" is entirely another. It is the language someone uses when talking to a subordinate. That annoys the shit out me.

It is the same condescension that pisses me off about kronk. Once he called me a "good kid, and funny too." Here I am thinking to myself, "I am 26, WTF?"

Also, when I argue I try to make things as blunt and harsh as possible. It is the old Patton technique "when i want them to remember, i make it loud and dirty." Don't feel so special, everyone I argue with gets the same treatment. Look at my posts to citrus and frackal earlier on this thread. It is just the way I debate. Politeness always causes me problems, because of the elliptical nature it forces, because my attention span is far to short to keep track of additional points.
