for the past 10 months or so i have had some knee pain in my left kneewhere it cracks everytime i walk and has a small pop...

so heres what ive started to think...

i have natrually tight hamstrigs (im 6'4) and they are very strong i can SLDL a lot of weight and my deadlifts are strong too..

would you think that because my hamsare soo tight they are causing the knee to tighten up and hence when i walk it causes that pull and pain???

im just trying to figure out what exercises to do....i feel like my Squatting career is over : (....i dunno tho...

doubt it. your quads would have to be exstremely weak and small to allow for such an imbalance that the knee is having pain. could be a whole bunch of things. why not go to an orthopedic and see if its tendons, ligaments, or muscle?

I guess...i had an xray done in March and it came back negative...

i do train smart...but not sure if this injury was created a couple years ago and now im paying....i guess i should go orthopedic is for feet right??? do they do knee pain too???

they are sports med doctors and they perform surgery on bone and muscle injuries. foot docs are podiatrists i think.

get it checked out. there could be muscle imbalances related to various muscle inserts around the knee causing your discomfort. there are other specialists you could see if a doc says he cant find anything but starting with an orthopedic is the best bet.

Had to laugh when I read the post. I am also 6'4 and my left knee cracks and pops as well. I have strained my calf before and think it was due to squatting. I squat now still but feel like I am playing with fire. My deadlift is my best lift also btw. Never had it checked out. The popping is the worst in the morning and gets better with stretching and throughout the day. Although it pops it does not really hurt that bad.

tkirk...same here...i can definitely do squats still dont go too heavy...but i feel like im playin with fire as well...

ive really changed how i train quads now due to this potential problem...

morning or nite its the same...i try and warm-up stretch...this is just so frustrating...i gotta train legs tomorrow so we will see....again this problem has been going on for almost a year...

I'm not a doctor, but I have a bad knee. If your knee is making a lot of strange popping sounds, it's probably a cartilage and/or bone issue, which can be fixed quickly and almost painlessly. You should get an MRI.

I (front) squat 3x a week, but my knee never bothers me. Before I squat, I do the elliptical trainer for at least 15 min, and I stretch my hamstrings hard. It also helps to keep your knee warm while you lift.

yeah, seeing a dr. Would be the best bet but until I have the money and insurance to do so, I will be doing lots of stretching and warmup on a bike. Also try and make sure form is perfect and concentrate on pushing with both legs equally.
