Do you pause on raw benches in training?

I know that Metal Militia guys take a pause on the boards, just wondering if you powerlifters pause on raw benches in training.

I was doing a light touch and go on benches and boards. People commented that I need to sink the bar into those boards instead. I'm doing that on boards now, and it's a huge difference. I was just wondering if I should pause on regular raw benches, too.

I don't know anything about raw benching, but i believe if you follow the westside template doing de benching, you should not have to pause in training. I think they say this is because by doing de benching, your are teaching your muscles to retain kinetic energy for longer. They say that it will allow you to pause in a meet and it won't take away from your strength. But like i said, i suck at raw benching.

nope, never puased a bench in training even, with that said i dont bounce the bar either. perhaps if i benched RAW at meets it would be different.

I pause my heavy singles and triples. If I'm doing something like close grip for reps, I'll touch and go. And on speed bench I touch and go.

I thoroughly enjoy bouncing max singles off my rib cage.

I don't like to use the term "pause" with boards. Instead I like the term "sink into the boards"

Maybe I should start to pause on my heavy singles/triples as well. I've always been a touch and go person myself. Right now im still on 5x5 and some 3RM's so its not too bad, but when WS starts again..ill have to adjust to the pause.

I think it depends on where you are in your training.

I believe if you are going to prepare for a meet, then you must emulate contest conditions as best as possible.

Now if you are doing, "pump" or "down" sets then I like to use a steady, controlled constant tension technique.

Pausing is great to teach muscle control, and proper form.
