Do You?...Even just a little

Okay, so I just posted for diet help, and got some great suggestions from Spatts and everyone alike. I have a question though. When that little demon called "pms" comes creeping around do you ever have a bit of chocolate? I have been satisfying my sweet tooth with 1 mini reeses peanut butter cup, or a sugar free candy of some sort. Is this a MAJOR no, no? Thanks.

cookies

at 10:00PM last saturday night, i had a major break down and baked a batch of chewy chocolate chip cookies. they were gone sunday morning. the boyfriend ate half...so only half a batch of cookies is still clinging to my ass.

i claim temporary insanity....aka PMS

I'll eat a cookie a day or eat a handful of those .10cent chocolates (bite size reeses peanut butter cup, butterfinger, etc.) - or both.

Doesn't matter if it's prior to a cycle or not. A wee bit a day ain't gonna kill me.

Something to think about: a woman's metabolism will speed up dramatically prior to a menstual cycle. Hence the feeling to eat more. During this time, what I'll do is eat more. I actually add another meal or snack time during the days prior. This way, my energy levels remain at a even level.

And that brings something else up: mood levels. Your mood levels may need a kick in the pants during this time. Excercise can do this. But so can chocolate. :)

pudding

velvett - when you make the pudding, do you use two cups of milk or do you ever use water?

i love the chocolate fudge flavor, and i've always been tempted to try substituting a cup of water for a cup of the milk, but i'm always scared of ruining it.

Yup, when dieting, I give myself 1 1/2 days off each month. I try to stick to mainly low fat/high carb stuff, but occassionally I give in completely and eat pizza :) Does a body good if it's done infrequently IMHO.

I don't have too many cravings since I started taking 5-HTP, but when I did, I would allow myself one Lindt truffle ball per day. They only have 8 grams of carbs, and if I froze them and nibbled them slowly, I could make them last. The mint or white chocolate flavors are to die for!

As I've said before, my life wouldn't be worth living without chocolate chip cookies, no matter how good I looked. So I have a few every day. They're very small, but they're always fresh-baked (I keep the dough in the fridge), so a little goes a long way on the satisfaction scale. For me it works better having a small treat every day than by doing cheat meals or cheat days.

I use skim milk plus from parmalat (yes, it's regular skim milk) because it's more like 2% than skim.

Never tried water - I guess it's worth a try.

:)

Vel --

For every box of the sugar free/fat free instant pudding, I prepare it as directed but with skim milk.....BUT before adding the milk, I incorporate a scoop of vanilla low carb protein powder (you may wish to up the liquid just a bit to keep it from getting too thick)....but it is yummy and another sneaky way to get some protein in it.

My son does not notice the difference!

No kidding? Wow, this I will have to try! What brand are we talking about with the protein? Isopure?

So, I imagine it's not like putting food coloring in your egg whites, huh:lmao:

I have used protein powder in my SF/FF pudding for ages. What a wonderful way to get my daily protein requirements! And I use Isopure vanilla, along with pistachio, chocolate fudge, butterscotch and banana cream flavors pudding. Now my mouth is watering, have to get some pudding!:FRlol:

Hmmmm do I know you? ;) That food coloring thing really got me and I suppose the rest of our group! He is something else that man of mine!

I generally use Designer Whey but we have some other one in the house now (not sure what it is -- it is in a Costco size container).

thanks for the replies. You know I completely forgot about sugar free, fat free pudding. I was eating it for the longest time, then stopped. Gonna stock pile some tonight. Thanks ladies!

Isopure with sf/ff pudding it is!:p

When I make s/f pudding with protein powder, I substitute water for the milk. HOWEVER - this only works if you use a protein powder that thickens; if you use whey isolate (or other powders without thickening agents), your pudding won't set with water. You'd have to use milk.

From my wanderings, I've read your metabolism increases enough when PMS'ing to allow an additional consumption of 300 kcals/day. Can't remember where I read this though...

Lately I have been craving corn and bread. Hmm, that sound's good. I could go for some corn-bread. KFC used to have really good corn-bread muffins. I miss those. But I am like everyone else, I do fat-free/sugar-free pudding for my sweet tooth.:D I have noticed I don't crave sweets like I used to.

Another quick sweet tooth-chocolate craving remedy are lifesaver's creme savers in chocolate.

Just don't carry a whole BAG with you - grab three and step away from the bag.

Great suggestion. I'm going to try that:D

Mrs BE has perfected a semi-natural shake recipe for her choco cravings that does not seem to upset her carb-sensitive equilibrium. It goes like this:

1-2 Cups Reconstituted Powdered dry milk made with 20% less milk powder. (This is what the kidies drink and we cook with.) You can use soya milk, but the kcalories are higher.

Half of a small apple or pear. (Optional, but it really helps with texture and taste.)

3-5 Large Strawberries (optional) OR 5-10 Raspberries (optional) AND/OR a quarter cup of blueberries. (optional)

1-2 Heaped Tablespoons of plain wheat bran. (Bakers bran from health food store, NOT cereal)

1-2 Heaped Tablespoons flaxseeds (golden is okay but regular taste better IMO) ground finely in coffee grinder.

1 Scoop vanilla or choc. protein powder. (optional, but helps with texture and flavour, we like ISS Research, cheap and is true to label.)

1 Level Tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder. (experiment with amount, MrsBE is a dark choco fiend!)

1-2 Tablespoons Splenda or substitute your favourite sweetener to taste.

Optional 1-2 tablespoons EFAs like Flax oil.

Yield: A massive 32-oz shake that can be split if you fill up fast. If you split it, add liquid to make the reserved half-runny.

I worked all the nutrition info up on a spreadsheet, but I can't find it right now. If you used a whole med. NZ apple, it was around 280-320 Kcals. The carbs are all relatively low GI, but they are there. The fibre content is outstanding and will make you a 'regular' gal or guy. The carbs do not cause any negative affects on MrsBE, who is VERY carb sensitive, but YMMV.

We are not fans of regularly consuming MRP shakes as whole foods are better. But for 4-5 days during PMS, it really helps and the anti-ox profile is great. We split one a couple of times a week when meals are impossible due to schedules.
