can someone help me out with this? Its time i pimp the 91 civic dx- its been hideous long enough! *raises index finger* so now its time for changes.. namely paint- i was thinking black charcoal (non reflexisive) really deep black stuff, with bronze rims, lowered. so how do i do this? can someone tell me the steps to paint the ride (ie. sanding.. primer.. etc) i have never done this before but i like trying out new stuff, and the testosterone in me propells me to work on my car by myself. plz help

- sanding: if you screw up this step then no matter what quality paint you use, it will look like shit.

- primer/sealer

- base coat

- clear coat

You'll need a good compressor (not some "el cheapo" cereal box), high flow/low velocity paint gun and sanding tools (that's up to you). Just in "liquids" it will easily cost a good 300-400$ (if you take a good urethane). For the tools, you can always rent them cause a good gun is 150$, compressor, 150$ too.

So it's basically a non-metallic and non-perlascent paint right ? Flat black. Rims are easy to paint btw. Sanding, primer and spray can. That's it. Callipers are even easier. Sanding and high tempareture spray.

im in canada no maco... yup, im thinking bat mobile black. and i dont think ill paint the rims, just buy new ones as i dont even have rims. :( prolly advans *drool

Yes we have Maaco in canada but you get for what you paid for.

Well sure. You won't get a three layer process with pearlised paint on the entire car, but then again it's a cheap car and it does not need a $4,000 paint job, or even a $1000 paint job to look good. For $400 they'll do a good enough job, certainly better then he'll do himself, they'll even oven bake it. I had an old car in the past (87 Trans Am) and they did a pretty damn good job. Lasted for years too.

yes but i want to do this myself though cuz its funner (is that even a word?). everytime the old beater broke down, i was that one that went under the hood and brought her back to life - not some mechanic shop. u grow attached to your ride.

Then get yourself the tools and do it. The most important part is sanding. if you fail, it will look like shit. Then the high flow/low velocity (dont remember it's brand name) will take care of it. it's more expensive but at least you wont waste your base/clearcoat.

I got a pretty decent Macco paint job. How ever I did do my headlightly myself with chrome spraint paint. I'm assuming you have a pretty dust free place to paint it but the dust will show up in the paint if you don't.
