Distilled Water vs. Spring water

what are the benefits of drinking distilled water against drinking regular spring water?

I"ve heard a lot of different things over time and its back and forth. Many swear by distilled and many say its bad for you?

For records sake I usually drink ONLY distilled the last 2 weeks before a show because I was told it clings to sodium and flushes it out more so than regular spring...WHICH IS POSSIBLY 100% WRONG.

so what do you think?

sodium in the body is ionized. The nature of the water molecule is such that it too has negative polarity on the Oxygen molecule and positive polarity on the hydrogen molecules. When sodium is introduced to water, the water molecules will trap it with the hydrogen molecules surrounding the Na molecule.

That is pure chemistry background from HS science but with that said:

If the 'distilled water' has NO MINERALS, NO SODIUM, etc in it and your 'Spring Water' does have minerals and possibly sodium (or any other ionic compounds) then it would stand to reason that Distilled water would be better at flushing out sodium :-)

with THAT said... Most 'spring water' isn't spring water, it's just plain tap water from a good source.
I prefer whatever is cheapest considering I buy 15+gallons of water per week

I agree with the comment about Spring Water. I loved Aquafina & Dasani Water. I raved about it to everyone. Then my sister asked me, Do you know why you love that water so much? I said No. She then said, its purified NYC tap water. The former mayor made a big deal with Coke & Pepsi. Yes, looking back, the taste is familiar.

However, I started drinking distilled recently. I prefer it over Spring (source is irrelevant) and the tap. That said, I will drink whatever is available when I'm out.

The first couple contests I trained for, I used only distilled water. Thought that was the way to go.

The last 7 or so I went to no sodium spring water, and noticed absolutely no difference.

Ive been reading Optimum Sports Nutrition by Dr. Michael Colgan and he says distilled is the only way to go.
Is there a price difference between distilled and spring water??

In laymans terms, distilled water flushes a lot of things out, sodium, minerals and other things good/bad. I suggest you stick to 5 days/wk regular spring water and 2 days/wk distilled water. I found the combination of 5/2 to be optimal.

Some of my clients have done a distilled water intake 7days/wk, per their request. A few have seen health benefits, like rashes going away and such, but the others said they would rather get minerals in the water, as they had some cramps etc...

When you lose too many minerals, electrolytes, it's not healthy and it can create problems for your body. Thus, a well maintained balance is the only way to go.

A very popular spring water is called:
Detroit Spring Water

Guess where it is from? The good ol' Detroit Public Water Department taps.

I know Aquafina around the Detroit/Downriver area comes from the Detroit River :worried:

At first though, but when you think about it. The water we are drinking now was really the same water your great great grandfather drank. Of course we are creating more water as combustion takes places as well as a few other chemical reactions, but for the most part:
Water comes from the store (or tap)
We drink it
We piss it
Goes into the sewage system gets treated with some chemicals and they do a few other things with it, but eventually it evaporates or gets flushed into a river/lake after it has been cleaned up
It evaporates
Clouds get too heavy and rain and back down

Then SOMEONE somewhere grabs that water, purifies it some more
toss it into a bottle and sticks a label on it and the cycle continues :-)

even real spring water comes from the same place the other water does. It just happens to get filtered naturally
