digital scale giveing body fat % ? accurate

a neighbor has a digital scale you step in it gives the weight then stay on it a little longer it gives body fat percent ... I think its hog wash not saying that I have lower body fat then what it claims. I am claiming the owner has higher body fat then what the scale claims we are the same height ... could it be accurate or what? does it know the diff between water in the muscles and water with fat outside the muscles?

anyone use this voodoo hookie pokie scale he bought it at the mall from the place sharper image.

I have one made by tanita and I believe it reads abit high. It is good as a guide though. Lowest bf readings are obtained at night. Highest in the am which is opposite of what i anticipated...

yeah i have one it's pretty accurate from what i can tell. it also has buttons that tell your total water percentage (the one that people say is around 75%-80% but i'm 67.4%), the weight of muscle alone, body age, and some other stuff. i think it's pretty cool to look at the muscle weight grow and recede. it's higher before workouts because you tear them during the workout so there's less and then they heal up and it's a little more usually if you're eating right. that's how i got my diet good because i would workout but it would never heal up to be more, only less or equal. now i stuff my face and it always goes up. very very slowly but it always does. i think it's pretty cool.

I have same scale, it runs about 5% higher than real bf.

get hydrostatically tested...upside down in a scientific water tank....isnt this proven to be the most accurate way, other than cutting the flesh off and testing it...lol

Where did you get that scale? What's it called? $$$$?

Best testing to my knowledge

Ah, these scales are accurate for some, and not for others. So key word, they are unreliable. I have owned 2 myself, but don't really use it for the BF measurements now. Could be used as a guide though.

I have seen them as much as 15% out and that was a $200 scale

Yeah I was about to say something similar. I have one of the tanita scales too, got it about 8 years ago. Its way off, if I change the height (taller) setting my bf will go down and vise versa if i change the height (shorter than my height) it goes up. I'm no where near 27% right now, impossible. The more water you are holding the higher it will read too. Thats as far as the cheap $50 ones.

Is the pinch a little more accurate?

those scales are bs guys. there is no technology out there yet that can link your feet fat to your total BF, think about it. underwater weighng is the most accurate followed by the calipers. only prob with the underwater weighing is you have to almost drown yourself to get an accurate reading. I.E. blow out all your air while underwater and wait for the tech to get a reading!!! i always come back excessively obese on those scales.

May be good to show trends, but that's about it.

That's exactly how I use it. When the # goes up I know I have to get my diet in check and when it is going down it corresponds to how I feel and what I see in the mirror.
