difference between DOMS and an injury?

yesterday was leg day for me. SLDs are a part of my routine. last night my lower back still didn't feel 100% from my last session, but instead of listening to my body, I blasted out my heavy worksets. I usually get some solid DOMS in my lower back, but nothing like what I have now. I couldn't sleep all night, and now I can't even bend a few inches without severe pain in my lower back... like it feels very very tight. So, could this be an injury, or just a major case of DOMS? I just had a hot bath and it helped a bit, hopefully it'll start feeling better soon.
 
That sounds like an injury, not DOMS. DONT exericise and maybe try alternating hot and cold compresses. I guess it could be some extremely bad DOMS but it sounds unlikely.

Remember a few things...

1) Never train a sore muscle...

2) Don't be afraid to have a sore back. People don't mind when their legs or their chest gets sore...but too often people believe that their back muscles should NOT get sore. They are like any other muscle...they get sore too.

3) Stretch, ice, heat, and make use of Alleve.

4) Start AR work NOW!!!!

yeah, I took a hot bath right after and it helped a bit. my back lower losened up a bit by the end of the night. today it's lose enough, but it's still pretty sore, but this feels more like DOMS, the pain I had that morning was something I have never experienced in my lower back, it felt like pinched nerve. I'm skipping deads next session to let my back recover properly. thanks for the tips.
