I like In Flames, Soilwork, Dark Tranquillity Arch-Enemy, and Opeth... don't know if they classify as death metal or whatever.

"Melodic" death, yes. I'm a fan of all of those, except Arch Enemy. I just burned In Flames' "Clayman" album last night. Badass record.

death metal in the united states is weird it comes and goes all the time i think it because there not much diverse. unlike hardcore metal and metalcore which is really big

This goes out to Bullit or should I say Bullshit... Why are you so damn closed minded and opinionated towards death metal? You sound like a complete ass who only sees one opinion as right-your own.... You rip on death metal, but you probably have a very narrow exposure to some of the music out there...Keep listening to the mainstream that the radio and MTV force feeds us because society says "it's cool". I'm more into just plain metal and black metal, but I wouldn't go out and say the ridiculous shit you did about death metal...As far as I'm concerned, almost any kind of metal conveys more talent than the crap you hear on the radio or MTV...Also, there is some cheesy death metal, but to categorize all death metal as garbage is utter stupidity. Bands like Dimmu Borgir, Iced Earth, Sentenced, Lamb of God, Emperor, etc. have more talent both lyrically and musically than any of the mainstream crap you hear out there.. Hails to Samoth and Vital Remains.....Well spoken....

I'm nitpickling, but Dimmu Borgir are classified as blackened metal, no?

Lamb of God is sort of mainstream stuff now, being played on the MTV2 tour and all. So, that's not really a good argument.

I also retract my earlier statement about not liking Arch Enemy. Their older stuff is good, but I don't like this chick singer of theirs now.

My friend/and roomate for 7-8 years of this life was the lil' blonde bombshell himself derek boyer (bassist for vitals latest release).He's out on the biggest project in deathmetal right now,band whore.So yeah he's packed up his pj's and is now the bassist for the most respected deathmetal bands ever.Won't say who,but they are the standard in deathmetal/godfathers if you will.
We've played in bands together for all those years,and in return became great friends,and band mates with disgorge.Small world
