Death Metal is my game... I rarely have time to listen to music, so it's most likely some form of metal, but nothing makes my brain vibe like death metal distortion with double bass drums and vocals that tear the skin off your spine...

metal is something you can comprehend, you probably listen to mortician or something rediculous like that, where all they fuckin do is bang on the drums real fast while the whole two riffs of the guitars are repeated over and over again, and to top all that off they mumble about how satan will rule the world...they might even cough, but then who the fuck can tell what they're saying anyway?

Actually, the part about banging on drums playing two riffs and mumbling akin to dogs barking underwater is true in many respects. I completely see where people get these stereotypes from, because a lot of it is true.
In this genre, quantitatively speaking, poor quality and lack of talent far overshadow the few talented bands.
This is in reference only to underground death/black/grind/doom/pick-your-subgenre. Not slayer, or any other such named band.
If you want quality, and some of the most talented musicians to rival any genre of music, check out Manowar. They are far from death metal, but they are the Kings of Metal nonetheless. Hail.

It has nothing to do with mainstream, nothing. I'm glad you mentioned Fagtera. Another shit ass Band who isn't Metal. Just because a band is Heavy does NOT make them Metal. Fagtera is a Band who was Glam cock rock, decided to jump the bandwagon and jump on the new trend. Soooo they tried to ripoff Exhorder. Only problem, Dimefag can't play for shit. Soo they ripped off Exhorder and slowed the shit down playing Funk beats. They wouldn't know Metal if it slapped them in the face.
Same with Mushroomhead. Their "roots" are Drop D Funk music. Not Metal. Slayer might still be Metal, not sure. After they turned pussy on Bob Larsons show I ignored the fucks. Sepultera last I heard still suck ass.

Deathmetal is certainly the way to go, nothing can match the intensity and pounding drumming, percusive guitar riffs and death growls.
I saw deicide about a week ago, made my week thats for fucken sure. Took down some weird ass looking people, phoenix shows seem to attract some odd looking motherfuckers.
The new Vital Remains is badass by the way, Glenn did a good job with vocals even though new deicide shit sounds tired.
Its all about Cryptopsy, Carcass, Blood Red Throne, Decapitated, Exhumed, Impaled....

A few years ago they used to play the shit on MTV, and still play it on MTV2 quite a bit I hear. Not to mention bands like Slipknot which is pretty much the same stuff.

The group that represents metal to me and were the first ones to actually say that they were a metal band and not dodge the name were "Judas Priest". That is Classic Metal.

My friend/and roomate for 7-8 years of this life was the lil' blonde bombshell himself derek boyer (bassist for vitals latest release).He's out on the biggest project in deathmetal right now,band whore.So yeah he's packed up his pj's and is now the bassist for the most respected deathmetal bands ever.Won't say who,but they are the standard in deathmetal/godfathers if you will.
We've played in bands together for all those years,and in return became great friends,and band mates with disgorge.Small world
